network level adblock that works for chromecast google tv youtube/hulu ads

I've spent my entire afternoon on this, configured NextDNS and other similar software level solutions, and it's looking like my only option is to spend some money on either a raspberry pi to use pi-hole or a new router to support installing custom firmware. Before I go through this though I was hoping to ask if anyone else has gone through this and came out successful? Ive seen people claim that chromecast hardcodes the DNS but through my own testing this is false as you can change the dns1 and 2, they are just set to google's by default but very much changeable. It seems however that youtube and hulu ads come from the same domain as the videos themselves so DNS blocking doesn't work.

I'm specifically looking for input from anyone who has successfully blocked youtube and hulu ads on a chromecast google TV, not speculative answers from what others think might work, no offence intended to anyone, but Ive spent all day searching for answers and have tried everything short of pi-hole or custom router firmware. I'm also aware of youtube vanced, but this is only a half baked solution as I still have to deal with hulu ads

CBS sports dot com

Ublock doesn't block ads when I wanna watch golf. Nord VPN did when I would initially start the stream and it would play a couple ads and then I turned on Nord and it would block future commercial breaks. Now today it doesn't work. CBS got smart? thanks for your feedback

As someone who never uses adblockers, I am using one for the first time on Youtube, and you should too.

I never use adblockers. I don't care about ads, because although time is money, I'd rather pay a few seconds of my time watching ads than pay actual money knowing that watching the ads is still giving the companies the remuneration that they deserve.

But Youtube has gone too far. The only way to force them to change is to either boycott by not using the site, which is impossible for almost all of us, which leaves us with the only other option: for all of us to use adblockers in protest. If you have gotten yourself comfortable with an alternative to Youtube, good for you! Stay that way. For those of us who can't, this is the only way we can give ourselves a chance of making a change.

Here is the blocker: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-for-youtube/cmedhionkhpnakcndndgjdbohmhepckk/reviews

Adblock+ on ESPN+

I've noticed that my ABP shows several thousand ads blocked per hour (I had 30k blocked ads during a documentary last week) on each tab that I am streaming something on ESPN+ from. Is this something to be concerned about (if I didn't have adblock on)? It just seems so ridiculous that theres thousands of elements being blocked -- I can't begin to imagine what kind of trackers/ads they're trying to push that are getting blocked

If anyone has some insight into this, lmk

How are the block lists actually made?

Hi, I'm wonering, how are the blocklists actually made? I'd think it was done manually in the beginning but surely that's not how it's done now, with entries into the millions? Is it by some sort of scripting, user activity spoofing, things like that? I'm not a developer so bear with me (I do have some understanding of the principles).

Thanks!

Do multiple adblockers/similar extensions cause problems?

In my Firefox browser I currently have four privacy-related extensions: AdBlock, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Disconnect, and Facebook Container. Does having this many extensions mitigate the effectiveness of them/affect my ability to use Firefox? Do they conflict with each other?

Who the hell is " *.wzrkt.com" ? Does anyone know?

I have been observing that many of my Government apps or social media apps , network operator apps are trying to connect "in1.wzrkt.com" , "somename.wzrkt.com" and Adblock is blocking this domain.

Is this any suspicious domain or data stealing server? Always when I wake up in the morning i see so many requests were blocked by adguard to this domain.

Can anyone clarify why it is getting blocked? and if it is then why in government apps and some trusted apps.

I trust Adguard/Adblock that there has to be some reason that's why it is in block list.

Whats best adblocking solution for mobile devices!

So, I have been using adguard and Next DNS blocking solutions for a year now.

My findings are.

1)Adguard app -

Pros -

1)Clean browsing experience

2)You can use your favorite browser, works with any browser

3)Block ads from all apps

4)Support user javascripts

5)Cosmetic Filterting

Cons -

1)Reduces internet speed by 10 - 20 Mbps

2)As it creates VPN and run all the time, battery consumption is higher

3)Can't be combined with any other VPN, supports parallel adguard VPN but speeds are not great

2)NextDNS

Pros-

1) Filtering happens on their server.

2) Customizable blocklist.

3)Option to create multiple configuration and block services. (Social media, XXX etc.)

4)Can be combined with any VPN service

5)No impact on speed

Cons-

1)No cosmetic filtering

2)Mostly gets detected by sites

3)No option to add custom filters (Custom rules can be added).

Other than this i have tried services like Controld which is also DNS based and also offers proxy unblocking services and I have also tried blokada. But naturally they are almost DNS based and offer same things.

I welcome everyone to share their views and there best solutions.

Are there any newer/better methods to block ads on iOS

I am mostly talking Youtube and Twitch which seem to be the harder ones to shut down.

I ended up using Luna VPN for a long time now because it was the only thing that consistently shut down the ads in the Youtube app. Even though they had the whole selling data fiasco a long time ago...

Recently I updated from 13.5 to 14.8 thought and even with Luna VPN I still see at least the ad listings inside the Youtube app which leads me to believe that eventually I will get an ad on a video too at some point or another. Has there been a better way to block ads on iOS? I have NordVPN for example, can I set that one up to block ads?

Appreciate any help

Looking for Adblock for iPad

I’ve tried many Adblock apps that have worked on my phone, but none of them seem to work on my iPad. I’ve been using blockades for my iPad up until they started charging for it. I’ve tried Luna VPN, adgaurd, and many others but they don’t work. If you find an adblocker for iPad that works, please let me know in the comments. I don’t use safari so if you find an Adblock for safari only it won’t be useful.

My friend came up with an idea: Adblock Rage Click

It works the same as AdBlock, but at same time it clicks in any possible advertisement (in a strath way, not opening for user). I think it would make companies waist money with an unreal click.

These guys are destroying internet day by day.

"Connection Refused" due to adblocking

I haven't seen much of a discussion about this and so wanted to make a post. I've noticed some sites will refuse to load at all if they detect any form of ad blocking, which results in a browser-based error of "connection refused" instead of the usual website-based messages you'd usually expect.

After some digging, I see a bit more of how this process works - the site is checking to see if your browser was able to resolve (via DNS) and load content (via browser) from a specific subdomain (usually the ad-content server itself) before it decides to display the content of the page. If it is unable to load the subdomain in question, it refuses your connection completely instead of displaying any content.

A good example of this is Engadget; if your browser can't load "guce.engadget.com" for any reason, the parent domain "engadget.com" will refuse to let you connect at all. In my block logs I can see "Engadget.com" is resolving just fine but the "guce" subdomain is blocked by adblocking, resulting in the above behavior. Once I let "guce" through I can once again access the rest of their domain/website.

Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.
