I feel like paying for something used to mean you were done paying for it.
Now you buy a smart TV and get ads on the home screen. Pay for a streaming service and still get commercials. Buy an app and suddenly there's a new subscription to remove ads or unlock features that used to be included.
At this point, it feels like companies don't just want you to buy their products. They want to keep making money off you every time you use them.

Delete your data on your browser. The buffering immediately stopped for me and can now watch without issues.

Youtube always loses vs adblockers at the end of the day, from what I can see. Why do they even bother? It seems like a wasted effort.
Ive got no clue how to code something like adblock, but adblockers have always been kind of "from the people, for the people" kind of thing, and the people are numerous enough to eclipse the business.
So, where is the financial incentive for a company to fight the adblockers?
If you start a video, and the ad start playing, kill the video stream and restart the same video.
Sometimes you have to kill the stream once or twice but generally it takes like 4 seconds to start the video without ads. Also works mid stream when the ads come on. Just kill the video, and restart it. Should take you back to right where you were without ad.

Earlier adguard could block every ads. But Truecaller is showing ads even when adguard is on. This is going on since last 3-4 updates.

yes, it is really embarrassing if i'm a company and my product is known world widely and almost everyone use it and know it, why do i've to promote it? I know people are using it. Like why does META still have ads "hey download fb/insta it's so much fun yeeey!!". I've both. I've Brave on both my phone and pc, so I didn't see YouTube ads or any ads for like 4 years. i only listen to music when I study or workout, and it's on my pc. it's much more comfortable. basically i use my pc for most of things that i can do on my phone, but i really don't like to hold my phone for hours (using my pc reduced my doom scrolling from hours to a couple of minutes, you can also download extensions to block things you don't wanna see on social media and YT. For several months, I had my AdGuard configured, and everything was perfect. I even disabled automatic iOS updates and app update updates so there wouldn’t be any unpleasant surprises.
Then out of nowhere, the whole layout of YouTube changed, and now they are redirecting me to the mobile site. They won’t even honor my request for the desktop site.
When using Safari, Firefox, or Brave, the YouTube layout is ABSOLUTELY RETARDED, with many features missing such as live chat, strange artifacts on the screen, buttons you can’t click on… It’s unbelievably crippled.

i watch Youtube on TV with my Xbox, and i don't know how to avoid the ads - they are absolutely relentless. getting to the point now where i cant even find it enjoyable anymore to watch youtube because i'll get 4 unskippable ads totalling over a minute long within 5 minutes of watching a video. Youtube is already downloaded onto my Xbox, i dont watch it through a browser because using the browser on my Xbox is frankly just annoying, so is there a way to even do it without having to use browser? if theres not then i guess ill just deal with the browser.

Tried Chrome, Comet, Brave with: Ublock Origin Lite, AdGuard + Extra, Twitch Adblock, Enabled experimental lists in Brave.
Still lags, interrupts the video, video pauses, black screens, twitch chat disconnects. The full house of issues.
This didnt happen yesterday.

Has anyone here tried a whole-home ad blocker? I'm thinking about getting one, but I'm not sure how well they actually work. Do they block ads reliably across phones, PCs, smart TVs, etc.? And is it worth buying one, or are there better/cheaper alternatives? Would love to hear from people who have actually used one.
Most people probably install an ad blocker because they're tired of seeing ads everywhere, but blocking trackers might actually be the more useful part. Even if I didn't mind seeing a few ads, I'd still rather not have a bunch of trackers following me across different sites.
What about you? If ads became less annoying tomorrow, would you still keep your ad blocker just for the privacy side of it?

When I click on a video from the homepage of YouTube in my browser to watch it, and then slide back to the previous page using the sidebar, the homepage automatically refreshes, which is very annoying for me.l hope that when I return, I can stil see the recommended videos l initially saw, just like in the app. I don't want to use the app，because it has too many advertisements.Before using revanced, I have to open microG every time, which I don't like.
A lot of people are complaining about their AdBlocker not working on Youtube every now and then. Its a constant cat and mouse game, so if you use Youtube often, you will almost always have some sort of an issue.
Luckily, there is an easy fix for this. Simply use their embedded version of the player. It was originally meant for watching videos on different sites, but due to their contract with advertisers, it is ad-free on most sites (https://youtubeembedcode.com/en/).
However, the UI is really bad. Not sure why they like the mobile design so much. 360 videos don’t even work in it. Luckily, I made a fix for it, so you can use the nocookie version of Youtube to enjoy ad-free playback again.

After several months of development, testing, debugging, researching, and trying out different approaches, I finally feel that my open-source ad blocker has reached a reasonably stable state.
It started as a small personal project focused on blocking ads and trackers while keeping the extension lightweight and simple. Over time, I kept improving it, rewriting parts of the implementation, testing different approaches, and learning a lot along the way.
There are definitely still things that can be improved, but I’m quite happy with where the project is today and how it performs during everyday browsing.

You know that moment when a site suddenly won’t load properly and you have no idea what’s breaking it? Could be the VPN, the ad blocker, or some DNS filter running in the background.
I usually end up turning things off one by one until it works again. But it got me thinking: if a privacy tool regularly breaks websites and you have to disable it anyway, is it actually protecting you or just creating more problems?
So long story short, for some reason YouTube keeps spamming ads for some dating website name Taimi at me. I've blocked them, and sent messages saying I don't think some of these ads are appropriate when your apparently trying to make the main app into the kids app, and for like the past 2 days I've seen an ad for it at least 3 times.
They removed this from the YouTube reddit page even tho I've told them that they keep sending them.
I am running safari as my default browser and now I have to decide what adblocker to use. It seems like UBOL, wBlock and Wipr2 are the go-to apps. So which one in your experience is better? By the way I am wondering what happened to the wBlock developer from MIT since his reddit account has been deleted.

What can i do to block ads on OTT for a smart projector/tv. The ads on OTT have increased by a lot and I can install some ad blocking extention when watching OTT from chrome but I can't do the same on smart projector/tv since the OTT is on apps and not on browser. So, in some websites, there are "flashing ads". These are pop-up ads that often show up with a very small square-sized pop-up window at any of the corner of your screen. Even more strangely, if you try to close it down. It will start "blinking". By "blinking", I mean that the pop-up window will start jumping between any two corners of your screen to avoid it being closed.

I used to watch anime on random websites using Brave because the ad blocker used to work perfectly. I also used AniLab since it had a download option, but now that’s gone too 😭. Ads aren't just annoying, sometimes they can introduce tracking, malicious redirects, phishing pages, and distracting content, especially on devices used for work or learning.
For managed Android devices, one approach is to block ads by endpoint-level web filtering rather than relying on a browser-specific ad blocker.
IT admins can Create a web filtering policy -> Block Mobile Advertisements and Web Advertisements categories -> Apply the policy to selected Android device profiles -> Monitor blocked traffic through logs.
The policies are enforced at the device level, so users don't have to configure an ad blocker themselves.

I know it might not be relevant to this sub, but I have a college project on the importance of adblocker and quite a few other things on the web, So I decided to show a live demonstration.
The idea is i'll visit the site with ubo off and show how dirty the site is filled with ads and trackers and stuff. Then I'll turn on ubo and show the difference and show how many ads and trackers it blocked.
Can I get a list of site which bombard you with ads the moment you visit them ?
I would appericate if its not a NSFW site with NSFW ads since its a College demonstration.
Hey there! So I've noticed a few people talking about a new error that is occurring while using Adblock Pro that is making videos constantly buffer between the 0:00 mark and the end of the video. Well, I haven't dealt with it on my computer (I use opera gx with ublock origin), but my boyfriend has (Microsoft edge with Adblock Pro [yes him using edge is very cringe, he will not listen to advice]). Anyways, he discovered a weird workaround. So if you queue up a video on the same account on YouTube TV, and it loads an ad, it will make it work on your computer instantly. Also, there were no errors on demonetized content. So hopefully this is helpful to someone. Very strange, but it works.
TL;DR- run a video that is on the same account as your PC on the YouTube TV app until an ad plays. Your queued video on your PC will instantly boot up.
So i know that many loath ai, but some of the bigger models are great classifiers and believe it or not do a great job finding ads. ai is currently too slow to do on first page load, but in the background it can work and after a couple of page loads, it starts detecting very well. It also relies on tried and true public lists.
It does initially download an ai model depending on your hardware. Everything is transparent in the system tab if you want to see under the hood. it also does Anti-Fingerprinting, Auto Block Cookies and cookie popups, Canvas fingerprint randomization, WebRTC leak protection, and Navigator spoofing too. Most sites also use cookie cutter ad placeholders, the extension "sees" this and kills them on other sites as it loads.

Since everything is 100% local, If you have a decent GPU and care to provide some feedback, would like to see what the world thinks. Some sites it acts pretty aggressive, I'm working to see if I can find a better balance. I used to rely on blocking at the DNS level, but want better control in the browser.
 | These are screenshots of the android YouTube app on GrapheneOS (I've covered over anything identifying the channel). The person who's phone this is thought their phone had been hacked and that's why they're seeing these messages. What they said to me was "I'm getting messages on my phone that my photos are not safe and I need to ..." What had actually happened is they had "accidently" installed the native YT app and prior to August 2026 they never had to see malvertising like this because FF for Android has uBO in it and aggressively blocks this stuff. What I want to point out is the fine details of the malicious ad:
The point of this post is to clearly demonstrate to the people who say "we need advertising to pay for ..." that the advertising we have is malicious and there is no way for anyone other than the ad publishing networks to fix it. The YT channel owner can't make sure ads like this are correctly labelled, they can't reposition them in the viewport, and they can't review malicious ads like this that get shown to their viewers prior to them being shown. Been using a vpn in Poland for ages without seeing any ads.
Started seeing them and no matter what country I choose, I still see them.
Twitch upped their game recently?
I use android tv app by the way. Any workarounds for that OS would be appreciated.
So far it's been only today, will they release an update that fixes it?

I am in my 60s, and I like to play games on my iPad to keep my mind sharp. Many games have these pesky ads that pop up every 10 minutes. Most of the ads are about learning AI programs that claim to be free. I learned from experience that not everything is free.
I will admit I have watched ads until the end, filled in my personal information, then thought about it, changed my mind, and canceled the free trial.
In the past, the mailman delivered junk mail, and we usually threw sales ads in the trash. Email arrived and shortened the time for letters and bills to be sent and received, and those pesky ads started taking up more space in your inbox than your usual mail.
Personally, I like my mail being delivered by the mailman because it is a hard copy that can be used as proof. Email has become so complicated that I rarely check it. The spam, junk mail,
and email from people I don't even know.
I do not like those ads that offer a free trial period, because I often forget to end the subscription before the trial date ends. These ads, spam, and junk mail need to stop.

 | I’ve never used ad blockers before and downloaded one called pop up blocker due to the number of downloads and reviews and it worked pretty well tbh. But I’ve noticed this on my youtube. Location and language all are correct however this is still what shows up, I’ve since removed it and started using uBlock Origin Lite however It still shows that. (it’s barely been 10 mins, I refreshed it lol) should I be concerned and how can I fix it, if it is indeed a problem. I’m not the greatest with stuff like this as you can probably tell. Thanks! So every time i go to a website that requires for a adblocker to be turned off it instantly shows a anti adblock popup, i usually just delete it with inspect element, but in some cases i turn it off but it somehow still shows that screen, so i completely remove the adblock from chrome but it still shows up!?!?!? I check a adblocker test it shows 75% even tho i removed it, none of my other extensions block ads. To this day i still need help with this problem any sort of help would be appreciated.

So my line of thinking is that anyone on the street wouldn't be able to see into my pockets like a RPG NPC, and requesting a servers information and ads while simply not displaying the latter should be relatively unknown as well.
I could also stand to learn how ad blockers work, as well so if you have a good eli5 on it that would be greatly appreciated as well.
