As I understand it, this is a new feature? I know that to stop YouTube ads, you need VPN to route to Albania or Cuba... but is there split tunneling on Apple TV or all of Apple TV apps route traffic outside? Does Magic Lasso on Apple TV do it differently now?
Recently over at GitHub I helped develop the uBlock Origin ad filters for USPS Informed Delivery website. The devs told me in the thread that the filters work for uBlock versions of both Chromium and Firefox.
Here are the 2 filters you should add to uBlock, on separate lines.

Are there ad blockers that can see the original script of the web page and be able to separate the webpage features from the ad-blocking, or am I looking for an answer that hasn't been invented yet?
I get how ad blockers generate revenue for a site, but once you've shown the ad, effin' stop with the intrusive, blocking ads. If anything, stats say that it effectively unsells the product being advertised. As well as your website

I'm trying to configure Pi-hole to strike a balance between usability and aggressive ad/tracker blocking, particularly for Reddit and Pinterest. However, I'm running into some frustrating issues and would appreciate advice from experienced Pi-hole users.
1. Reddit – Broken browsing and app functionality
I want to access Reddit normally through both the browser and Android app while blocking as many advertisements, trackers and unnecessary domains as possible.

2. Pinterest – Advertisements aren't being blocked
Pinterest is another headache.
Despite using Pi-hole and maintaining an updated blocklist configuration, advertisements continue appearing in the Android app.
I've also tried accessing Pinterest through a VPN, but the advertisements still load.

My question: Is Pinterest serving advertisements through the same domains it uses to deliver regular images and content? If so, is there a reliable way to distinguish and block advertisements without breaking images, pins, videos and other app functionality?

Hey!
I've been working on a side project called pUDblock, a browser extension that deals with Twitch's live-stream ads.
It currently supports Firefox and Chrome, and the whole thing is open source
It's still pretty new, so I'm not going to pretend it's perfect. Twitch is constantly changing things, and there are probably some edge cases I haven't encountered yet.
If you're going to try it, I'd recommend disabling any other Twitch-specific ad blockers or userscripts first, as they might interfere with each other and cause unexpected issues.
Firefox has a signed version available, while Chrome currently requires manual installation until/if the web store submission gets approved.
Anyway, figured I'd share it here in case anyone finds it useful.

Chrome 109.0.5414.120 (32-bit) won't let me download it either. I'm concerned that uBO is now undownloadable on my device altogether. I have a subscription for total adblock and their Youtube extension stopped working yesterday. I did not change anything and it was working fine the day before that. I have contacted their helpline and they were unable to help.
Is anyone else having a similar issue, and do you have any fixes or will it likely fix on its own?
I own a lifetime liscense and never had any issues with adguard I love it. I returned to call of duty after 13 years and now I'm getting BSODs for "netio.sys". How do I prevent these while playing? I know it's an adguard bsod problem I just don't know how to prevent it. I really would like to continue using chrome + adguard desktop and not switch to brave which is noticeably slower to me.

1 or 2 years ago, maybe 3, I've switch off the ad blocker I've been using on YouTube because my user experience was somewhat awful. Now, within the last few months, YouTube just kept showing some stupid fake game ads or some gooner baits, despite saying countless times that these specific ads were uninteresting or bothering me. Nonetheless, the YouTube algorithm never seemed to learn and just kept repeating these ads.
I was okay with car ads, game ads or Unicef or other humanitarian topic related ads. Even when they were unskipable. The first were barely any bother, the second somewhat within my interest, while the latter are a pretty important messages to get through.
Anyway, I've reactivated my ad blocker, but YouTube isn't giving me a hard time for it anymore. Was there any changes?

I always thought online ads were mostly just annoying, as long as you didn't click on anything suspicious.
But I recently read that some malicious ads can actually put you at risk without clicking anything, especially if your browser has security vulnerabilities.

I've been using Pie for about a year since the ublock stuff happened. It didn't work on waterfox with teh full thing, didn't work on chrome with ubo. Friend steered me to Pie which has worked perfectly up until about a week ago where Twitch has been injecting video ads randomly at the top of the chat or at the right side of the stream. I can inspect element delete the ads to keep em off the screen, but they keep coming back. Pie hasn't done shit to fix the issue so here I am, askin for help

I feel like I’m rage baited into buying premium but after skipping what seems like a thousand ads, I’ve developed a one sided grudge with youtube…. So I’d much rather do anything else before resorting to that. I’ve had the same google chromecast 3 nc2-6a5 for more than 4 years and it used to skip youtube ads automatically. That was until this year, when it suddenly stopped and now I have to skip every add individually. In 2015 that wouldn’t really be a problem, but in 2026 you have to be the most stoic or genuinely crazy person not to be upset about it. the only thing that reaches those is filtering at the system level, or dns filtering on the router, because it catches the ad request before the app even loads it. everything else is whack-a-mole.

I bought a Vizio TV as a "cheap" replacement for my daughter's TV that stopped working properly after 10 years. It's bad enough I had to register it through Vizio AND Walmart, and had to agree to 4 pages of "we watch everything you do" agreements, just to unbrick the TV. All we use it for is our Firestick. I dont care about it's streaming capabilities. I want "On" and "Volume". The rest is handled by the Firestick and the Firestick remote.
But, this blasted thing changes to the Vizio Home input every 3-6 hours, and pops up an ad banner for something (Dish Network, YouTube, random this and that) that we dont use/never have any intentions of using. Now, the Firestick doesn't work, because its no longer on the correct input/source. I have to dig out the Vizio remote to decline the ad and change inputs.
Now, imagine, this is a young child that is getting unsolicited ads forced on her, and her having to come get us to reset everything.
It appears I made a grand mistake getting a Vizio. Or, is there a way to prevent the TV ads from intercepting the Firestick broadcast?

I love to have YouTube on in the background when playing games using second screen. But the ads I’ve used either don’t work it block PiP. So far I’ve used Adblock Luna and UBlock. For reference I use IOS, any suggestions?

Sorry if this may not be the best place, but I have yet to find a general anti-ad subreddit.
So on iOS, anything that views a web page must use the built-in Safari. That is a given. So therefore, if you successfully implement ad-blocking on Safari or the OS on which it runs, you also do so with every other web page that is retrieved from an in-app Safari.
I have gone full nuclear on ads for some time now, and have utilized encrypted DNS-over-TLS configuration profiles - that also include ad-blocking - to ensure ad-blocking at the system level instead at a higher level that apps can bypass. But some of these have started blocking legit sites (archive.today, for example) due to political pressure, and others have been shutting down (mullvad, as of 2026-11-02).
The current service du jour for me happens to be NextDNS. If you have only one device or router you block through, then you can run account-free, but if you exceed the 300,000 requests/mo limit (and imma gonna hit that within 6 days or so), you need an account to pay for more. And really, it’s a completely trivial amount of money, amounting to about $30USD/yr. Plus, through that account you can load community blocklists and even built your own denylist. Great if you want a single point of control over multiple devices, from your router (if running OpenWRT) to mobile devices.
My problem is that I am getting a massive disconnect between FlipBoard loading websites, and those websites within any other browser on iOS.
On FlipBoard, I get ads from AdChoices - and ONLY AdChoices - strewn throughout most to nearly all articles I open.
When I open those articles in a normal web browser on iOS, those ads don’t exist, or are blocked successfully.
Plus, I have also gone to the desktop and opened specific articles up on a naked web browser, one without any anti-adware, anti-malware, or anti-spyware protections, and some articles have no ads in the first place. Like, because it’s on desktop I am able to trivially view the source, and there are no HTML placeholders for ads where those ads are on iOS. And yes, as a web developer I know what to look for. Plus, I know the difference between ads locked to the bottom of the window - likely brought up as a part of the FlipBoard frame, within which would be the website - and ads embedded in the site content - which would be injected.
So my only conclusion - as of this point - is that FlipBoard is intentionally injecting ads into the articles that are brought up within the app.
This is somewhat sad, because my primary attraction to Flipboard is the random nature of what it brings up. I don’t have to hunt down RSS feeds, I just need to select a few subjects and it brings that content together.
But it has also been doing an 18+ age check with every launch, which as an information-MUST-be-free person, is deeply heretical. That alone will likely cause me to drop it as soon as I find something decent to replace it with.
I just want to first figure out what is happening, here, in case it also starts happening with another app.
For context:
I was there, in the mid to late 90s, when visiting the wrong website - or even the right website on the wrong day! - spawned so many pop-ups and pop-unders that it was like trying to play whack-a-mole. And trying to close one pop-under or pop-over spawned a half-dozen more, to the point where not only was the browser locked up six ways to Sunday, but even the OS as a whole ground to a halt, requiring a hard restart and the loss of all your active work.
It’s also why I jumped eagerly on the world’s first browser ad-blocker when it was released for Firefox (then Phoenix) back in 2002.
I feel for those companies who rely on advertising to drive revenue, but man, that well was permanently poisoned for me three decades ago. I will not suffer another ad if I can absolutely do so. Hell, it’s why I gave up broadcast TV back in 2001, and will instantly drop any streaming service that does not have a 100% ad-free tier.
If I need a product or service, I do research. But I go so far as to have a “never patronize” list for billboards I see IRL.
Look, I get that Youtube is a business, and needs ad revenue. But I loathe how they implement the ads, and how they're flooding the feed with AI slop. So until they fix that, I will do everything to avoid the ads.
A couple of days ago, Adblock simply stopped working on Youtube. It seems to work everywhere else, though.

When I search for "marmor" (marble), I receive an adChoice banner advertising a seller. A slimmer element is on some listings. The opt-out for it being targeted behind that and further is fake. But anyway I´d like to not have that at all. Something tries to block it, but the element is unique immediately. How is this done?

So there is this file hosting website called Flash-files.com. The problem with this website is it just doesn't let me download anything. I tried everything turning off ad blocker, turning my mobile dns to off tried all browsers from Brave, Kiwi, Firefox, Tor, Chrome and still it is blocking me with a huge ahh Ad Block Detected page. I've been a uBO user for a long time and this post is about my curiousity. Tried AdGuard for half an hour and it actually gave me a higher Speedometer result with only AdGuard on. I always thought uBO had the best performance among adblockers. Anyways, I assume both are amazing. What do you think about this comparison, which one is better for you?
Spotify can play music without ads, but switch to a podcast and suddenly there's someone talking about mattresses or meal kits for two minutes.
The tricky part is that a lot of podcast ads are baked right into the content, so regular ad blockers and DNS filtering can't really do much.
And this isn't really about finding another ad-blocking tool. I'm wondering if ads become almost impossible to block once creators start making them part of the content itself.

Tried 45 news sites with nothing blocking. the middle article sent 464 of its 650 requests to ad companies and trackers. one NY Post article made over 4,000 requests for a single story, which is a bit insane.
then I found out pretty much every blocker (AdBlock, ABP, uBO, Brave, AdGuard) uses the same free list underneath, and most of that list is written by one guy in New Zealand.

Hi! I’ve been looking for an ad-blocker, extension, or browser that will allow me to listen to YouTube playlists on AUTOPLAY on my phone in windowed mode. I just want to listen to my video game music playlists in the background seamlessly.
I’ve used Brave for a couple years, but it does not have functional autoplay for playlists in windowed mode. There’s also a lot of weird lag between playing videos regardless.

I have created a tier 1 ad-blocker (with its own native engine) that also supports in-video (YouTube) ad blocking (opt-in) natively designed for Safari. As per today's benchmarks (speed-o-meter 3.1) it is the least intrusive in terms of performance.
It is NOT another copy-paste generic rules loader into Safari lists blocker.
It is able to bypass all major anti-adblock mechanisms as of today. Easily tested with intercelestial.com, NewYourTimes, Wire, atresplayer.com, any BlockAdBlock or Wheel protected website, etc.
I am crazy about performance and it implements many smart cache tricks when navigating as well as automatically removing the gaps left by traditional css rules adblocking making the websites look much cleaner.

Just found out after a whole month of just missing out and wanted to share for anyone having the same problem:
In browser (personally using Firefox) when searching YT videos I only ever got shorts, channels and playlists as results and never proper videos. The homepage shows normally, the recommended videos to the side show normally while watching something... but on the search page specifically I could never see a single full video (only shorts). The mobile app works as normal, but on PC even on multiple computers with or without an account the search wouldn't show any video.
The solution: On uBlock Origin simply disable the "Cosmetic filtering on this site" and everything is back to normal. For now I still don't have ads even with that setting disabled.
Just making this post since I didn't see any online topics about it and it suddenly happened maybe a month or two ago so probably the change was on YT's side rather than the adblocker updating

I use Ublock origin lite on google chrome and it works no problem but when I install Ublock origin lite on safari and use desktop website ( so exaclty the same as on my macbook+ublock origin that works good) it doesnt work + the UI is shit cause spotify does everything they can to make the web interface suck.
I have a Steam Deck setup as a media PC, used primarily for watching streaming services ad-free via Firefox with uBlock Origin. I recently got access to YouTube TV via a family member's subscription, watch it through Firefox, but uBlock isn't blocking ads. Googling the problem has thus far only shown solutions for the dedicated app. Is it possible to block YouTuve TV adds on browser? Doesn't have to be Firefox specifically as long as it's compatible with Steam Deck.

Hello! Trying to watch Tracker on the CBS streaming site. It doesn’t work in Brave Browser or on Google chrome with the ad blockers I have installed. Anybody know one that does work on CBS? Thanks!
Blocking ads somehow turned into an arms race...
Started with a basic browser ad blocker. Then moved on to HTTPS filtering when that wasn’t enough. Then came the really stubborn in-app ads that somehow still found a way through.
Every time ads get harder to block, the setup seems to level up too
What did you start with, and what are you using now for the really stubborn stuff?

Adguard's app doesn't blocks ads on Youtube App, it makes a VPN to block on browser, not a solution, just a band-aid. Firefox already has Ublock in it so... moving on.

#### Long term solution:
If your device runs on android, let it be a phone or TV... just install Firefox and use Ublock. Google Chrome has Adguard and Adblock plus too. So many fucking restaurants playing those 1 hour loops of XYZ music getting interrupted by Ads, blasting their costumers with shit, if you have a business and can't or don't want to do spotify then do Firefox/Google adblockers.

### This is a list of tricks on how to stop wasting time with Ads on Youtube mobile.

You don't want to install external little thingies, too scared, too complicated, shady websites, blablabla, all valid reasons.
´
Navigation bar on the lower edge of the screen (App history: **|||** Minimize App **[]** Back **<**) for the sake of explanation, always three of them, usually are similar.
##### What to do?:
> 1> Open the app in vertical (Hopefully no retard shorts play).
>> 2> Tap on any video, get the Ad since it's been hours from last time opened (Unless Channel has no monetization).
>>> 3> Press **<** to shrink the video player. (Vertical mode)
>>>> 4> Tap on any other video (Get another ad).
>>>>> 5> Repeat (4> and 5>) 4-5 times until the actual video loads.

Video is now on History, else refresh History.

##### What now?:
> 6> Go to your History tab (Click your profile picture) keep it there.
>> 8> Watch the video normally until you get an ad.
>>> 9> Press **|||** or **[]** to close (If you are in Horizontal, turn the phone vertically)
>>>> 10> Go back inside and press **<** to shrink the video player.
>>>>> 11> Tap on any other video in History (Barely any ads here).

**>>>** While in vertical sometimes Youtube will pop a banner ad, this is not a coincidence. Youtube shorts which appear in Vertical stop the video player and thus the ad from playing, video reels (Horizontal feeds such as News or etc, are in fact videos) community posts don't do shit. Do the thing.
**>>>** History may be moved automatically without you doing anything to hide the History section, for a reason... just make sure to scroll up so it shows it on the screen before using History.
**>>>** While in vertical sometimes Youtube crams a video between 2 banner ads, this is not a coincidences, unless bigger phone screens allow you to see past this banners then the UI is tied to a %Percentage% of the screen, flip the phone horizontally to hide banner ads.

#### **Do the Maths:**
Each ad is minimal 5 seconds to "Skip Ad" and maximum 10 seconds long, **you'll get 2-3** of them if you wait to press "Skip Ad", that's 10 seconds minimal to 20/30s Max.

There is a minimal time counter you need to meet in order to stop receiving Ads, **usually** 2 ads that you "Skip" are enough for a total of 10 seconds.
´
The steps above cause Youtube to freak and suffer, a total time of 1 second per Ad doesn't counts towards the minimal timer and Youtube gives up somewhere around 4-5 ads (It costs them money lmao) rather than than shoving 10 ads of 1 second, allowing you to spend a total of 5 seconds at Max instead of 10 of "Skip ads" only at first.

At second you get an Ad every 10 minutes of video... In 60 minute videos, that's 6 ads, 60 seconds of "Skipped" Ads. By brute force skipping ads. Once the video gets into History, Each ad becomes 1 second every 10 minutes, 6 seconds only.

You are browsing a video, watched it and found another one underneath, you click it and you get an ad, now you reclick the video where you found that one but Youtube won't show it again, it's lost.

I’m an Android user looking for a convenient and privacy-friendly way to block ads across apps like YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Reddit, etc.
I’ve heard about using AdGuard DNS, but I understand that DNS-based blocking doesn’t really block YouTube ads.
So I’m wondering: what would be the best solution for blocking ads across as many apps and websites as possible while still being privacy-friendly?
Ideally, I’d also like something that I can easily turn on/off when needed — for example, if a website detects the ad blocker and refuses to let me access it.
edit: Also don't suggest browser only solutions as I already know them. The browsing is difficult and slow there, UI doesn't look very good.
What setup would you recommend?
I turned personilized ads off for couple of months. I found that I'd start to get a lot more straight up sexual ads. One ad even included a straight up dXldo in it... When I looked to block the ad yt told me something like "you have to have personilized ads on if you want to be able to block ads". I'm wondering if this is a strategy they use to force users into turning personilized ads back on to get rid of sexual ads and AI slop it feeds you. Why can't you block ads with the personalised ads off?? I don't understand...its gotta be a tactic or something bmo.
Isn’t it cute how they always try to ban ad blockers? Like they think they’re actually going to beat the internet and the overwhelming majority of people who fucking despise advertising? Hey y'all, I've never really posted here before, but I felt this needed to be said.
There is a growing movement of creators and users planning to stop all YouTube consumption through the month of November. This is a direct response to YouTube's recent changes including new AI features, changing the way views are counted, etc. in order to appease shareholders instead of it's community.
A passive boycott where people just watch a little less doesn't work. To show YouTube and Google that we are the ones upholding the platform, we need to (hopefully) actually hit their revenue and data tracking. This strike involves three core steps:
Cancel YouTube Premium: Cut off their direct subscription revenue.
Uninstall the app: Remove it from your devices so their passive tracking and data collection stops completely.
Block the ads: If you absolutely have to watch something, use a strict adblocker (like uBlock Origin) or an open-source frontend like FreeTube on desktop or NewPipe on mobile.
This is understandably a massive undertaking as YouTube and it's users are very widespread, but hopefully we can band together and share this strike with all corners of the internet.
YouTube is an amazing platform and a catalog of the best minds of our time sharing their knowledge, let's make sure a money hungry corporation cannot take that away from us.
We need to save YouTube!
