working for months now, BEST ADBLOCK i have ever used and i will never look back!!

NOT SPONSORED OR ENDORSED/PAID
JUST A HAPPY CUSTOMER WHO WANTS TO SHARE.
I am just sharing this to help other people with youtube adblocking, i had issues with finding a working one for years, moving through adblock pro, adblock plus and even tamper-monkey (none of them consistently worked)

This adblock extension has completely solved that problem and has been working non stop for many months now, you can start with the one week trial, and then after that it is a one time payment of $2, this is NOT a paid advertisement for the extension, i am just a person that appreciates when things WORK well and continue to do so without issues, I don't know what sorcery they are using but I'm extremely happy with the extension and would GLADLY pay $2 a month for this, everyone knows that advertising sucks and on youtube it can be extremely annoying! youtube premium is also way too expensive especially when most are already paying for other streaming services alongside it.
having an account with Goodtube works on multiple devices (main computer laptop and tablet for me)
Do yourself a favor and add it to your browser, it's absolutely worth it and i haven't had any ads in months! Also this extension has the edition of completely BLOCKING shorts and keeping your videos in your specific quality (1080p/1440p/2160)

is the pop up blocker on my TV's browser enough and reliable?

my Samsung CU8100 smart tv has a browser (Internet) and the browser has a pop up blocker option which i have already enabled. i watch movies on sketchy websites that include pop ups that can give you malware on the tv browser, but since i have the pop up blocker enabled, it's not showing. but i still wonder if relying on my browser's in-built pop up blocker is enough, or do i have to download a different browser with stronger adblock on the tv, which i don't think is possible. so how good/reliable is the pop up blocker on samsung's tv browser? if you have a samsung smart tv and is using the browser for the same purposes or if you know a thing or two then please let me know. because i really don't want my tv to get malware. would also like some tips about adblock on tv. thank you.

From a recent Twitter thread: Windscribe claimed that its extension can replace uBO, Ghostery, PrivacyBadger, ClearURLs, and HTTPS Everywhere. I like Windscribe but this is a bit of a bold claim, especially versus uBO whose full version (not uBO lite) does replace the remaining top 4.

YouTube videos purposefully buffering?

Has anyone noticed an increased amount of buffering at the start of almost every YouTube video recently? This happens on all of Brave, Chrome + uBO, and Safari + uBO. If you disable the adblockers, the video (or an ad, usually) loads instantly. It seems way too convenient and happens way too consistently.

edit: I should clarify this is only on desktop browsers, not mobile. Also, not sure why this was downvoted, Redditors never fail to be mad about nothing lol

is the pop up ad blocker on samsung tv's browser (Internet) reliable?

i go on p*racy websites on my samsung tv's (samsung cu8100, os 2211) internet browser to watch movies and such, and you guys already know that those type of websites contain pop up ads which can lead to malware if clicked. i did turn on the "block pop ups" option on the browser's settings so i don't get pop ups. i do want to ask if do i actually not get pop ups because of that setting or is there another reason why i don't get pop ups? because on chrome browser on my phone i blocked pop ups and redirects but i still get them so i wonder if the internet browser on my samsung tv is just as unreliable. if you go on p*racy websites on the samsung tv internet browser too, please let me know regarding your experience about the whole adblock and such. thanks.

i also want to ask if there are any other browsers with stronger adblockers that i can download on my samsung tv?

Is it even possible to block YouTube ads anymore without a headache?

I’m about to lose my mind with YouTube’s latest adblock detection. It feels like every time I update my filters, they find a new way to break things.

I’ve tried switching to Firefox with uBlock Origin since Chrome’s Manifest V3 update basically killed my old setup, and it’s been a bit more stable, but even that gets flagged occasionally.

Is anyone actually winning this cat-and-mouse game right now? I’ve heard people mention using DNS-level blocking or even custom scripts on Tampermonkey, but I’m curious what’s actually working for you guys in the long run. Are we all just destined to watch three mid-rolls per video, or is there a "set it and forget it" solution I haven't found yet? Thank you.

AdGuard “Error updating filters” on iOS

picture:

[ https://ibb.co/CKP7bQc1 ] -> Issue

[ https://ibb.co/pvqwWW2P ] -> My filters

Hi everyone,

I’m using AdGuard on iOS and recently ran into an issue that I can’t figure out. The app says protection is enabled, but there’s a message showing “Error updating filters.”

My setup:

• Device: iPhone XS • iOS version: 16.6.1 • AdGuard version: 4.5.19

What I’m seeing:

• Ad blocking is turned on and appears active • Most default filters (Ads, Privacy, Annoyances, etc.) are enabled • But the app fails whenever it tries to update filter lists

I’m not sure whether:

• My filters are now outdated and might not block ads properly • Or if this is just a temporary issue (server or connection related)

What I’ve tried so far:

• Turning protection off and on again • Manually refreshing/updating filters • Checking my internet connection

The error still persists.

Questions:

1. Is this a common issue with AdGuard on iOS? 2. Does this actually affect ad-blocking performance? 3. Any known fixes or workarounds for this?

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

iPad 6th Gen (17.7.10 max) YouTube, Brave, and Safari/AdGuard not working or 360p. Alternatives or workarounds?

Been having issues, particularly tonight.

Both either won’t even load the video I’m trying to watch or it’s stuck to 360p.

(Firefox and Ublock require iOS versions higher than this tablet can get.)

Anyone using older iOS versions have any suggestions?

[Tool] SmartTube — open source native YouTube client for iPhone/iPad/Mac, blocks all ads at the app level (no extension needed)

Hey r/Adblock,

Sharing an open source project I've been building: SmartTube for iOS/macOS — a native

Swift YouTube client that blocks ads at the app level, not through a browser extension.

Why this exists: uBlock Origin can't run on iPhone. The official YouTube app can't be

patched without a jailbreak. This solves both problems natively.

How it works:

- Uses the InnerTube API directly, bypassing the ad-injected web player entirely

- SponsorBlock API integrated — auto-skips sponsors, intros, self-promos, interaction reminders

- DeArrow community titles and thumbnails

- Google OAuth sign-in — real subscriptions, history, playlists

- Zero tracking, no analytics, no third-party SDKs

- Up to 8K playback, Picture-in-Picture

- iPhone, iPad, and Mac — native Swift 6, fully auditable source

Source: https://github.com/milika/SmartTubeIOS

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/smart-tube-bdp/id6761388918

Happy to answer questions about the ad-blocking implementation specifically.

The new subreddit rules are in affect! Let's talk about it.

Hey y'all, your new moderator here! I wanted to make a public announcement and to respond to common questions and concerns specifically regarding Rule 5 which prevents users from recommending the use of proprietary and paid content blockers.

Before I get into that, I wanted to properly introduce myself. My name is Reid, and I own a phone/computer repair shop in St Louis, Missouri called Honest Repair. I've had great interest in digital rights over the last 8 years, specifically internet privacy/safety, and have been a long-term member of r/Adblock and other communities like r/privacy and r/degoogle across different accounts. I've done professional OPSEC consulting through my business as well. This is my public-facing Reddit account tied to my business, and thus my reputation is on the line whenever I do anything on the platform, this is intentional to keep myself accountable!

I am doing this out of pure passion, I genuinely want to help the everyday average people learn about adblocking, why ad culture is so harmful and dangerous, and how to stay safe online. I want to make this subreddit into a resource, and I want to stop the literal advertisements being posted here, ya know, like the ads we are trying to block with adblockers lol.

Side note: I plan on building a subreddit wiki with the help of the other mods that will lay out all of your options for anything from individual devices, operating systems, browsers, extensions, network filtering (DNS), and anything in between. In the meantime while that's being built, utilize the pinned posts.

Now let's get into it.

What's with these new rules?

This subreddit has been plagued by fake, sketchy, and potentially malicious adblocking solutions for far too long. I was appointed by the creator of the subreddit to fix that problem.

From now on, all paid or proprietary adblocking applications or browser extensions will not be allowed to be recommended to other users. If you don't understand what open-source is and are wondering why that's so important, refer to the "Open-Source (FOSS) and why it makes a difference" section below.

But here is the general message; installing random untrusted anything from the internet is one of the worst things you can do on a computer. This is proven to be true time and time again, you can't even trust companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, or Mozilla to keep you safe, as malicious apps and extensions are uploaded to these online app stores every day that slip through the gaping hole that is their malware detection. However, there is a fairly simple way to prevent this from happening, which is by using trusted, vetted, open-source software. uBlock Origin is a perfect example, it is known worldwide as the most powerful and performant adblocker, and it will work for 99% of people.

"THIS IS CENSORSHIP!!"

No, it's not. We have no desire to hold our super special Reddit moderator powers over people for no reason. I have personally encountered an absurd amount of shady adblockers in this community and so have the other moderators. Rule 5 is about protecting the general public from shady unknown software. In this day of age there is no reason to use a paid or proprietary adblocker given the amount of tried and true, open-source options.

To be clear, we are not removing ALL comments that simply mention paid or proprietary adblockers, however actively recommending or promoting the use of this type of software will be removed whenever it's manually detected by myself or one of the other moderators. I happen to browse this subreddit a lot to help the community so you'll be seeing me around, and we respond to modmail/DMs if you have any questions or concerns. We are not power hungry stinky fedora-wearing Reddit mods, we genuinely want to help!

Open-Source (FOSS) and why it makes a difference

In simple terms, open-source refers to when developers make the source code for their app available to the public. FOSS stands for "Free and Open-Source Software". Since the code is able to be viewed by anybody, other developers and hobbyists alike can contribute by fixing bugs, finding vulnerabilities, or simply making sure that the app is not malware.

Transparency is extremely important here, as you no longer have to trust some guy on the Internet. Instead, you are trusting a community of passionate developers that just want to make the world a better place, often times not even getting paid for it! And if you don't trust them, you can take a look under the hood yourself if you have the knowledge. With this transparency and community comes trust, however just because something is FOSS does NOT make it automatically safe! This is especially true with the rise in AI-assisted or "vibe" coding.

Many programs you may have heard of are also FOSS, like VLC, Chromium, and many others. Which leads me to this; please donate to your favorite open-source projects if you get value out of it. FOSS is the backbone of the entire digital world, and it mostly relies on often unpaid volunteers who would really love to get paid for their work!

Devs README

I know some of you are not pleased with this change, and some of you think this is a great change! I hope we've made our intentions clear, we will not be reverting this change.

We will be allowing source-available projects as long as the source is able to be audited by the public. This means you do not have to accept contributions, and you can use a more restrictive license to ensure your work isn't redistributed or sold behind your back. I hope this is a reasonable middle-ground, again, the goal is never to censor, it is to protect the average person looking for an adblocker.

As far as vibe-coding, I understand that AI is a normal part of the developer's toolkit. However we expect to see a commit history, and we want to see READMEs with human language and actual thought behind the project. Low quality repos will be removed from the subreddit.

Modmail and DMs are open, and we try to be responsive and helpful. If you plan to show off a new project, it is recommended to reach out to us before posting on the subreddit, where we can ask you some questions and sort of vet each new project on an individual case basis.

simple guide for getting ReVanced working 2024 method

I see a lot of people struggling with the install lately so here is the quick, no-bs way to get it running without the crashes.

get the manager: download the latest ReVanced Manager from their official github. don't get it from random websites, those are usually malware.

get the right youtube apk: go to apkmirror and find the specific youtube version suggested in the manager (usually a "non-bundle" apk). do NOT install it, just download the file.

patching: open the manager > patcher > select an application > click "storage" and pick the apk u just downloaded.

microg/gms: if ur not rooted, make sure u select the "gms-core" patch so it actually opens.

install: hit patch, wait for it to finish, and then install.

if u get the "content not available" error, make sure ur using the latest gms-core. hope this helps someone tired of the 500 ads lol.

Wat is je karma-score nu? Laat het me weten als de eerste mensen vragen gaan stellen in de comments, dan help ik je met de antwoorden!

This sub is now CENSORED and this is harming the community

Well the title pretty much says it, but in short - for anyone who doesn't know this sub is now officially being censored.

What are the rules?

  1. Any adblocker which is not in their (extremely small) list is no longer allowed to be recommended here.
  2. Any adblocker which is not open source, or 100% free is no longer allowed to be recommended here.

To put this in perspective, I am a developer who's been providing a working Youtube adblocker for the last 2 years or more. It was first posted here and recieved a huge amount of attention. The first version grew to over 200k users. Now a new version exists, which is a big improvement. Not only does it block ads but it also allows you to do a lot of other stuff in terms of customising Youtube.

I won't mention the name of it, because - that is no longer allowed.

Over the last 2+ years this alternative adblocker has had almost 100% uptime. Unlike more mainstream solutions such as uBlock Origin, which go down every other week for many users. And yet, these mainstream adblockers are the only ones allowed to be recommended here anymore.

It contains no tracking, no harmful code, nothing malicious in any way. And it's been a huge labor of love - especially with recent updates which took months to finish.

But now it's done, can I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an adblocker? No, I cannot.

Why? Because the admins of this sub believe that if something is not "open source" then it's not trusted. Which is kind of ridiculous, as they have no idea how to read or write code.

I was this close, after months of work, to finally posting the latest version here. I was excited, like "it's done guys, check it out!". Keen to share it. But instead - we've all now been censored. Any sharing of an adblocker you made is forbidden. uBlock and mainstream crap only.

As developers of new and innovative products, this is simply insane.

We're now stuck with the same solutions, all of which are having major issues frequently. Nobody can innovate, nobody can provide alternatives.

Can we PLEASE STOP THE CENSORSHIP in this sub? Nobody asked for this - and nobody benefits from this. All this does is harm the community overall.

The security risk of browser extensions in particular is hugely overstated. I know exactly how strict the requirements are. Every release is reviewed by real people, who can actually read code. Manifest V3 in particular is SO SAFE IT HURTS (it's actually a pain to meet these standards the security is so damn high).

I mean, people talk a lot. People think they know everything lately it seems. Does anyone listen to developers? Like the people who actually understand this stuff and create the stuff that everyone is using? Nope.

I've been developing professionally for over 18 years. But will the all-knowing admins of this sub listen to anything I have to say? No. Will they even RESPOND to messages or comments? No.

Sorry guys, but I'm pissed. This has to stop. Anyone else picking up what I'm laying down? Can we please do something about this?

Hopefully a few people read this before the admins delete / censor this post...

WHY are they so many ads now

I try watching something on Netflix or Disney, the streaming services that you PAY FOR, but they still put fucking 3 ads at once, like 3 minutes of just ads. And not only that but when you put pause on anything you’re watching in Netflix and A NEW ONE WILL POP. Insane.

On YouTube or Spotify I kinda get it because you watching for free, but still this is just ridiculous.

Also do they really think ads work? They just piss people off, is like when you’re on Spotify and they put an ad promoting the most shitty song, NO ONE is or will be listening to that. Also like a 30 second ad where more than the half of it it’s just the background music??. Or in Disney when they try to promote their own shit like? Seriously? It just feels like they’re putting on ads just because.

What is going on

wco.tv##+js(abort-on-property-read, adblockCheck)

wco.tv##+js(set, adblockCheck, false)

wco.tv##.adblock-popup

wco.tv##.adblock-overlay

wco.tv##.overlay

These cover

  • the new detection variable
  • the new nested object
  • the new popup class
  • the new overlay class
  • the new secondary check

Also, you need to clear WCO site date first, then reload the page.

Trying to Build the Lightest Ad Blocker Chrome Extension

Hi everyone,

I’m currently learning and experimenting with building Chrome extensions, and this is one of my first projects.

The main goal is simple: create an ad blocker that is as lightweight as possible — no heavy background scripts, no unnecessary features, just fast and clean browsing.

I’m also testing a small English support feature to help users improve their English while browsing websites.

This project is still a work in progress, and I’m building it mainly to learn and explore how far I can optimize performance in a browser extension.

If you’re interested, you can check it out here:

I’d really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or ideas. Thanks!

Does you adblocker block ads and popups this website?

In firefox with UBO, I still get popups and ads if the uBlock Filter list is not enabled. All the other UBO filter lists seem to be ineffective.

AdGuard Extra to block Twitch Ads keeps lowering video quality?

I've been using AdGaurd Extra for awhile to block twitch ads but it keeps lowering video quality to like 160p when it starts blocking ads. I have to manually change it back to highest quality constantly it's extremely annoying.

If I'm able to change the quality to be higher then 160p why does it lower it in the first place? And why does it not increase the quality when it can? I shouldn't have to manually keep increasing the quality every time right?

Am I dumb or is there something I'm missing?

but not on my personal laptop. Any ideas why?

I built an MV3 Ad-Blocker with a built-in Split-Tunnel Proxy Router for Chromium 1.20+. Looking for feedback!

Hey everyone,

For the past three months, I’ve been heads-down building Chroma Ad-Blocker. To be blunt, I genuinely just really fucking hate ads, that hatred has fueled this project from day one. It’s a Manifest V3 ad blocker with a built-in split-tunnel proxy router that you can set up with your own VPN. The repo has always been public, but I haven't shared it anywhere until now. I’ve reached a point where I’m "lost in the sauce" and I need to get this out there to mentally move on to the next phase of development. For the sake of transparency, I’m posting this from my long-time Reddit account rather than a throwaway.

I realize this project might seem unnecessary given the trusted options out there. I was a longtime uBlock/Firefox user (and a Brave user before that). While I still love Firefox, I eventually had to use Chrome for work and I'll admit, I fell in love with the UI. I even tried Vivaldi, but nothing stuck like Chrome did. The problem was that I missed uBlock so much I was keeping Firefox open just for YouTube since every ad-blocker on Chrome seemed to eventually break YouTube. After quitting my job a while back and doing some local freelance dev work, I became obsessed with fixing this gap.

I know this community is rightfully skeptical. I value security as much as anyone, so the project is 100% free and source-available. I’m keeping it off the Chrome Web Store to bypass their arbitrary restrictions, which means it requires sideloading via Developer Mode. I encourage you to audit the code yourself.

Source Code: https://github.com/Dabrogost/Chroma-Ad-Blocker

I wanted to build something lightweight but powerful. It handles everything from standard banners to recipe blog clutter, and includes a dedicated YouTube engine. I also built a dynamic ad accelerator as a fallback toggle for YouTube if the primary engine hits a snag, the overlay also works on Prime Video.

The feature I’m most excited about and where I need your help is the Proxy Router:

  • Proxy Routing Testers: You can route specific sites through an HTTP/HTTPS/SOCKS5 proxy while keeping the rest of your browsing on your direct connection (there is also a global VPN fallback mode). I really need people to test this with their own setups and credentials to see how smoothly it handles connections.
  • General Feedback: I’m looking for any thoughts on the UI, performance, or weird bugs you encounter.

I really appreciate any feedback or testing you can provide!

Youtube Ads on Firefox+uBlock & iOS+AdBlock Pro

My apologies if this has been asked before, but what were the best solutions to YT currently?
I'm currently using firefox+uBlock Origin on my laptop and safari+AdBlock Pro on my phone.
Recently, the slowdowns and lag on laptop makes YT almost unusable, and it's even worse on iOS: videos just stop every 5 minutes and lose my progress whenever I play them.
I was looking into setting up piHole or some sort of self hosted solution as well as just paying for youtube premium via g2a or some other website offering cheaper foreign YT premium accounts...
Very frustrated obviously by this whole situation. Any help? Thanks!

Did Youtube win the AdBlocker war?

I've been trying Brave and Firefox with all the right plugins enabled and it just takes 2 refreshes for Brave and 2 minutes to load a youtube video on FireFox cause of the adblockers. If I use chrome without any adblocker it all works smoothly. I feel like YouTube has made it so hard for these browsers and adblockers to function smoothly they have won the war as I'm on the edge of just switching back to Chrome and just watching the damn ad as long as I dont have to refresh 100x and wait 2 minutes for the video to load.

winaero.com flashes 0.5 sec then blank (black/white) page in Brave & Firefox – fixed by disabling free AdBlock

On Windows 11 (i7/32 GB), https://winaero.com/ loads for ~0.5 seconds then goes completely blank (black in dark theme, white in light). No selection box appears when attempted. Happens in both Brave and Firefox when the free AdBlock extension is enabled.

Turning AdBlock completely off fixes it instantly. The site works fine in Chrome.

Best permanent fix: whitelist winaero.com in AdBlock settings (or switch to uBlock Origin).

Has anyone else hit this? AdBlock seems to be blocking a resource the site needs.

Ad Blocker for Twitch on Brave Browser

Can an adblocker cause YouTube comments you make to disappear unless you log into YouTube?

I am asking this because here recently a lot of my comments that I have made on different videos have vanished unless I log in. However, they still appear regardless on login on my channel.

I have been looking into what is causing this issue and thought I would ask this question on here.

I use Ublock on my browser and I just thought I’d ask if it may be the culprit.

Thanks!

Youtube keeps trying to reload video when using uBlock Origin on Brave

For the past month or two, each time I open a video, it tries to reload itself (the video timer keeps resetting) and the video won't start until I refresh the page.

Not sure if this is a uBlock Origin/Brave issue or if Youtube got more annoying towards users with an ad blocker.

Youtube ublock/badger unusable/slow ui

Hi, having issues with youtube specifically.

latest Firefox + ublock (advanced mode), privacy badger.

I am able to block the ads but youtube is doing something to the ui.

Some of the time when I scroll down nothing loads at all. Takes 30 seconds for next set of videos to load on the main page.

Most of the time youtube works fine for first hour or so (doesn't matter if I am using it or the tab is just open) and then it starts to slowly slow down and lag. Things take longer, clicks become unresponsive. Closing the tab and reopening does not help. Closing and reopening the browser window does until it starts again.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to remediate?

Ocassionally ads sneak through ublock but its usually temporary

Spotify blocking

I am using Adblock on OpenWRT and it works well. For Spotify specifically, it is working great in the browser on my PC.

However, it does NOT work on my Android phone in the app on the same network. I have verified that it still uses OpenWRT Adblock for DNS, however the Spotify app is still an egregious ad-fest.

What's the difference and is there a solution? I still want to use the app on my phone instead of the browser because of Android Auto.

Advice, tips?

Is it possible to block ads on multiple devices(computer or not) through a network?

I primarily adblock on PC through uBlock but some of my friends I live with use smart TVs & or Roku & they typically use ad supported tiers of streaming services & Tubi ads can't be blocked on those platforms through typical means since they're apps & not on browsers. I heard of something called Pi-Hole developed using Raspberry Pi but I think it was originally made for Linux so not entirely sure if it can be used or how effective it is on Windows but from what I've heard about Pi-Hole it allegedly can block ads on any device if it's connected to the network it's associated with & could possibly block ads on Roku & smart TVs. Anyone think it's possible to do it this way & has anyone had success trying it?

BLOCKLIST / WHITELIST Anything on YouTube w/ P2P No-Server Device Sync Free Open Source and sponsored content cards too

BLOCKLIST / WHITELIST Anything on YouTube w/ P2P No-Server Device Sync Free Open Source and sponsored content cards too

Update: The most requested feature is now fully usable in a much stronger form - Whitelist + Private Sync.

FilterTube now supports:

  • Full Whitelist mode (only allow what you explicitly choose).
  • Works across YouTube Main + YouTube Kids.
  • Profiles (Independent + Child) with PIN protection.
  • Import your subscribed channels with single tap as WHITELIST too.
  • And now the important part: secure P2P sync across devices (no central server).

This means:

  • Your rules (blocklist/whitelist) are not stored on any server
  • You can sync across devices privately
  • Works the same for personal use or controlled environments (kids)

So effectively:

Current state:

  • Stable on YouTube Kids
  • Minor rough edges still exist on YouTube Main (being worked on)
  • Import + Whitelist flow is working
  • And yes new improved UI for app and website too :)

Next:

  • Mobile (Android / iOS)
  • iPad
  • Android TV/ Fire TV

Context:

This started because parents were asking for basic control tools and got ignored:
https://support.google.com/youtubekids/thread/54509605/how-to-block-videos-by-keyword-or-tag?hl=en

One parent literally said they were helpless and asked me if I can do something. That stayed.

FilterTube.in will always remain:

  • Open source
  • Runs locally
  • No tracking
  • No data collection

Now evolving into:

  • Whitelist-first control system
  • Private sync layer (P2P, no server)

Chrome / Brave / Vivaldi

Firefox / Zen

Edge
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/filtertube/lgeflbmplcmljnhffmoghkoccflhlbem

Working continuously based on real feedback and real use cases.

Performance/Page loading inconsistencies between ad blockers/Android MS Edge

MS Edge on Android still supports MV2 extensions apparently.

I've been trying to find an Adblock extension for Edge on Android that doesn't tank performance and still works like it should.

I've noticed uBlock Origin, seems to delay page loading significantly. I understand it wasn't "meant" to be a mobile browser extension, but it also seems to have the best formatting of pages after the ads are removed, at the expense of page loading time.

My other concern is >how long< will Microsoft allow MV2 extensions in Edge. Do I want to waste my time with an extension that will get tanked in a week, a month, 4, or whenever?

I've tried uBlock Origin Lite, and it just doesn't seem to quite block everything it should. It does do a good job and I have it set on complete but it misses a few small things, even with all the filters enabled. The upside is it doesn't look like it does as much to hurt performance as uBO does.

I had been using Adguard extension. I can't tell if Edge is allowing the MV2 version or the MV3 version. I had recently used Chrome and it popped up with a warning saying I had to refresh my filters to make the numbers be under 300k or whatever it was. In Edge I have like 627k filter rules enabled. It seems like performance isn't horrible, but when I have Adguard enabled if the page has a text box it immediately pops up my keyboard and moves focus to the text box, for example using the Speedometer 3.1 test. The other blockers do not do this. It's more of an annoyance than anything else.

I'm just sharing my observations and if anyone has any suggestions to improve performance or blocking capabilities of the extensions let me know!

iOS ad-free YouTube app that supports hold down for 2x speed and double tap to rewind/forward?

I am desperate to find an app on iOS/iPhone that seamlessly supports hold down for 2x speed and double tap to rewind and forward on YouTube without ads. I use these features all the time and can’t find an app with ad-free YouTube that has these features running smoothly.

I’ve tried these alternatives:

Brave Browser: doesn’t support 2x speed in landscape mode

Tube PiP: pauses a bit when pressing and releasing to enable/disable 2x speed and it’s driving me crazy

I don’t mind paying small lifetime subscription fees if they’re required to access these features.

Is it okay to use Brave Shields AND Adguard at the same time?

Is it okay to use Brave Shields AND Adguard at the same time?

TLDR: Should I use both of time at the same time or should I just stick to one since they might clash?

I use Brave which has its built-in adblocker. I'm guessing it uses the same default blocklists which Ublock Origin uses.

I also use Adguard (the mobile and desktop apps), which has DNS filtering as well as cosmetic filtering and has a lot of blocklists available. Why not just stick to Brave Shields? I get system wide blocking from Adguard.

Is it okay to have them both at the same time or should I turn off Brave Shields?

do i really have to ditch chrome to get an adblocker?

hi!

I got a really nice laptop for the first time and i want to take care of it and a pleasant user experience.

I know jack shit about computers and networks though, so trying to find a user friendly ad blocker has been a little tough.

The main issue arising is that i am an avid chrome user and it seems most ad blockers don't work for chrome without some work around

So is it time i become a woman and switch to Firefox? will that allow me the power of ad blocking?

Id also appreciate any recommendations for user friendly/for dummies ad blockers

iPhone app like Video Lite without ads?

Hi guy,

does anyone know an ios app similar to Video Lite, but without the crazy amount of ads when it opens? I tried Enhancer yt, and the thing I really do not like is that as soon as I open it again, the first screen is full of thumbnails and suggested videos.

basically, I am looking for something more blank and private, where I can just use YouTube without getting flooded with recommendations right away. I want a cleaner experience, without all the extra ad clutter and without the app constantly pushing videos at me at start

Is there anything like that on iPhone right now, or any app you can recommend me for a more private youtube experience?

For those who complain about adult ads on YT

Every other day I see someone complaining they keep seeing adult ads on YT alongside of their normal content, so here are some important Algo points to understand:

  • The algorithm works based on your interest. Most probably, you are seeing these ads because someone (or you) is using your device (or your internet network) to access this category of content.
  • A good suggestion is to either use VPN along with changing your main browser profile (better to not get to those websites though)
  • Ads personalization also comes from your logged in profile. So if you are signed up on your phone while watching certain content it will propogate to your other devices.
  • AI queries and social media are also connected with your browser and search engines. So if you are using AI like gpt or social media like Facebook for something it will follow you on YouTube. Most of these sites have internal partnerships to share advertising data.
  • End to end encryption is a lie: Your whatsapp chats are not encrypted as facebook claims. At least not in full. The data is harnessed for making a digital profile and predict what might be interesting to you not just right now but also in the future.

One final suggestion: Find some good communities to join. Clean your feed and fill more of good stuff

I Created An AdBlocker Test Site

Hey r/Adblock,

I made a browser based ad blocker test at www.aderasr.com/test. It runs 28 levels of increasingly nasty stuff like ad networks, trackers, cosmetic filters, anti-adblock bait, fingerprinting, the usual boss fights and at the end you get a grade from S down to F plus a shield tier depending on how far you actually made it (if you fail one, you cannot continue). For some blockers that may happen sooner than you'd think.

Full disclosure, I built it alongside an iOS Safari content blocker I'm working on, so it's tuned with Safari in mind, but it runs on any browser and I'm genuinely curious how ad blockers around the community do on it.

A few things I'd love feedback on:

  • Are there blocking techniques or tracker types I'm missing?
  • Any levels that feel unfair or that your blocker "should" pass but doesn't?
  • What other test sites do you compare against?

No signup, no tracking on the site itself, no paywall, just the test. Roast it if it deserves roasting.

TwitchAdSolutions got archived. Pour one out for the script that kept Twitch ad-free

Pixeltris archived the repo last month. Said he's just done with Twitch. Honestly fair enough

That project quietly made Twitch usable for so many people and most of them probably didn't even know whose work was behind it. One person maintaining scripts so the rest of us don't sit through 3 minute mid-rolls during a boss fight

The scripts still work for now but with nobody maintaining them it's only a matter of time before Twitch patches them out. Kind of wild how one archived github repo can change the whole experience for that many viewers overnight.

Anyway. o7 to pixeltris
