YouTube Strike October 31st 2026

Hey y'all, I've never really posted here before, but I felt this needed to be said.

There is a growing movement of creators and users planning to stop all YouTube consumption through the month of November. This is a direct response to YouTube's recent changes including new AI features, changing the way views are counted, etc. in order to appease shareholders instead of it's community.

A passive boycott where people just watch a little less doesn't work. To show YouTube and Google that we are the ones upholding the platform, we need to (hopefully) actually hit their revenue and data tracking. This strike involves three core steps:

1. Cancel YouTube Premium: Cut off their direct subscription revenue.

2. Uninstall the app: Remove it from your devices so their passive tracking and data collection stops completely.

3. Block the ads: If you absolutely have to watch something, use a strict adblocker (like uBlock Origin) or an open-source frontend like FreeTube on desktop or NewPipe on mobile.

This is understandably a massive undertaking as YouTube and it's users are very widespread, but hopefully we can band together and share this strike with all corners of the internet.

YouTube is an amazing platform and a catalog of the best minds of our time sharing their knowledge, let's make sure a money hungry corporation cannot take that away from us.

We need to save YouTube!

Is this a new thing or am I late to the game? (Youtube ads)

On youtube today, I blocked an ai ad as I hate ai
And it skipped me back to my video.
I thought, oh, maybe it was because I accidentally pressed the skip button or because the skip button was already there as an option so I tried it again without it and it worked.
Five times I have tried it, 2-3 without the option to skip already being there (I have a screen rec of it), and it just skips the ad and takes me back to my video.
I haven’t tested this on anywhere other than my phone but I think it’s pretty cool for if you get lots of long or double ads, yk? :D
Is this a widely known thing or is it something that not many have yet discovered???
I find it useful as I do not have an adblock that works on youtube or on apps.

How to bypass the ads on Dailymotion

Not sure if this has been shared already. I figured out that you can bypass the ads on dailymotion by backing out of the video when the ads start and then clicking on the video again. It will restart the video from the beginning, but you need only to scroll just a little after the point that the ads started. This pertains to the dailymotion app and if you have a profile so that you are able to return back to the video in case you exit out of the app by accident.

Blocking ads from smart tv/chromecast

I have Synology DNS running control D or sth. Router points to that. I got tailscale.

On Win11 Prime video app, I get a pause on startup, and no ads. Youtube on chrome is fine w/ no ads.

On smart TV, chromecast, android phone, I still get ads. Is there anything more I can do?

In my asus router I went to 'Network Services Filter'

I added 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 1.1.1.1 to the firewall, as a deny list on port 53.

It doesn't seem to do anything.

wBlock Safari plugin don't show the dislike numbers

This popup on colnect is giving me trouble

Video will not play/stay buffering unless I turn off my adblocker

Been having this problem for about 2 months now, at first I thought it was the scripts that I have on tampermonkey, so I turned them off, nothing played, then I turned off the extensions that I have for youtube, but that wasn't it either. Why does BlockAds score higher than AdGuard on ad-blocking tests?

As a student with limited technical expertise, I’m trying to understand something I’ve noticed: on ad-blocking test sites, BlockAds scores higher than AdGuard, even though AdGuard appears to offer more features, including HTTPS filtering and the ability to use its own CA certificate and it also want a lot of permission. Building local Reddit ai posts/comments blocker (still developing)

Hey guys, this is my first year project for my cs innovation course. Its completely local and runs on a modified roberta class detection model that uses webgpu or cpu fall back plus a customised bayesian algorithim for keywords. I built this after realising how flooded many subs are by ai generated posts and comments, some of them are probably useful, but most are annoying and are ads for some service, epsecially when you are trying to see some genuine interactions and advice on reddit. I guess what im looking for will be some opinions on the interface e.g. blurring, tags etc. or just generic feedbacks. uBlock Origin Lite vs. AdGuard vs. Ghostery

In terms of using Chromium based browsers that have forced Manifest v3 like Chrome and other following in its footsteps with the removal of UBO that relied on Manifest v2 and other great adblockers out there which one is best in regards to privacy,security and tracker blocking while remaining light on resources?Which one to choose objectively as your all in one solution or use more than one in 2026 and beyond or should I use some other ones for comparison?

When did buying something stop meaning you get to use it without ads?

I feel like paying for something used to mean you were done paying for it.

Now you buy a smart TV and get ads on the home screen. Pay for a streaming service and still get commercials. Buy an app and suddenly there's a new subscription to remove ads or unlock features that used to be included.

At this point, it feels like companies don't just want you to buy their products. They want to keep making money off you every time you use them.

What's something you paid for that later started showing you ads? Thank you.

very specific issue with youtube and ublock origin

When i visit youtube with ublock origin turned on (this issue goes away entirely by shutting off ubo) for whatever reason whenever i open a youtube page by clicking a link from another site or by typing a url manually, a good chunk of the page just doesn't render (this also happens when you do literally anything requiring a full refresh, such as reloading the page, backtracking pages, or if the page just randomly decides to refresh itself) on the home page that usually looks like this: https://preview.redd.it/tpkmb14j8rqh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=d303485853018fa708deaa562e01867a2bda2a9c while on video pages it tends to look like this (the video itself does play but the rest of the page refuses to render, which includes the recommended videos, video metadata, comments, etc.) https://preview.redd.it/klv2aeb49rqh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=49ffeb27b1afe5773b55359be3b16e8ba9893acb clicking on other links (such as the "home" tab in the side menu) from what little loads usually temporarily fixes the issue of the site not rendering anything, however as soon as i reload the page (or if i click on a youtube link from another site/open youtube in a new tab), the issues come back and i have to do a whole slew of workarounds to get the page to render correctly i was wondering if there's any known fixes for this particular issue so that i don't need to keep doing these workarounds submitted by /u/GTStationYT [link] [comments]

Why does youtube even bother fighting adblockers?

Hope this is the right place to ask this question.

Youtube always loses vs adblockers at the end of the day, from what I can see. Why do they even bother? It seems like a wasted effort.

Ive got no clue how to code something like adblock, but adblockers have always been kind of "from the people, for the people" kind of thing, and the people are numerous enough to eclipse the business.

So, where is the financial incentive for a company to fight the adblockers?

Skip YouTube ads

If you start a video, and the ad start playing, kill the video stream and restart the same video.
Sometimes you have to kill the stream once or twice but generally it takes like 4 seconds to start the video without ads. Also works mid stream when the ads come on. Just kill the video, and restart it. Should take you back to right where you were without ad.

Don’t tell YouTube.

Honestly it is so embarrassing to still see insta/fb ads on YouTube in 2026

yes, it is really embarrassing if i'm a company and my product is known world widely and almost everyone use it and know it, why do i've to promote it? I know people are using it. Like why does META still have ads "hey download fb/insta it's so much fun yeeey!!". I've both. I use Facebook occasionally for university (i'll finally delete it cz i'm about to graduate), but Instagram like daily and from time to time i take a break. (i'll delete it too for a year or more, until i feel i'm mentally okay)

I've Brave on both my phone and pc, so I didn't see YouTube ads or any ads for like 4 years. i only listen to music when I study or workout, and it's on my pc. it's much more comfortable. basically i use my pc for most of things that i can do on my phone, but i really don't like to hold my phone for hours (using my pc reduced my doom scrolling from hours to a couple of minutes, you can also download extensions to block things you don't wanna see on social media and YT. I only have Insta on my phone)

In the last few days, i started to put some YT mixes on my phone when i'm working out. but just because brave is so slow when it comes to mixes I use the main YT app. so i saw ads for the first time in my 4-5 years. It's really weird and annoying to see ads. Even tough I'm a marketing student myself, I just hate them, ads are so cringe. Most of the ads are just Insta/Facebook. Which is more cringe. Like why the heck do we need to see them, everyone in the world know these apps, and most of young people use it. it even push me even more to use less Instagram on my phone. I've never see an ad for twitter for example, I've been using twitter since i'm 15, it's my first social media actually, it's not addicting, comfi, and just chilling. Unlike insta/fb, they're so annoying, the users, the content, reels, dead repetitive content, ads... and everyone just use them, so why do we need to see ads to download it, their marketing department is so stupid and uncreative. They're just wasting huge money to promote their apps.

Built-in vs Extension based Blocking

I think browsers that can implement blocking(ads, travkers, other stuffs) built into the browser (like brave) are the future as MV2 is deprecated and the web moves in the direction chromium moves. Manifest V2 Extensions are Removed from chrome web store with the support also being removed from the chromium source. This is going to eventually effect all the chromium based browsers like (Brave, Edge, Opera). I think it's time for these browser to intergate internal ad-blocking feature built into the browser. Annoying youtube popup I cant get rid off

Is it just me, or is Google getting aggressive with Adblockers?

For several months, I had my AdGuard configured, and everything was perfect. I even disabled automatic iOS updates and app update updates so there wouldn’t be any unpleasant surprises.

Then out of nowhere, the whole layout of YouTube changed, and now they are redirecting me to the mobile site. They won’t even honor my request for the desktop site.

When using Safari, Firefox, or Brave, the YouTube layout is ABSOLUTELY RETARDED, with many features missing such as live chat, strange artifacts on the screen, buttons you can’t click on… It’s unbelievably crippled.

Google is intentionally doing this, right? They’re trying to force us into using the YouTube app or Chrome- where you have to watch ads.

I have two iPads. One is running iPadOS 18 and the other one is iPadOS 26. Both started doing the exact same thing about a month ago. Please tell me I’m an idiot and I just need to press some button and everything will be fine again.

i watch Youtube on TV with my Xbox, and i don't know how to avoid the ads - they are absolutely relentless. getting to the point now where i cant even find it enjoyable anymore to watch youtube because i'll get 4 unskippable ads totalling over a minute long within 5 minutes of watching a video. Youtube is already downloaded onto my Xbox, i dont watch it through a browser because using the browser on my Xbox is frankly just annoying, so is there a way to even do it without having to use browser? if theres not then i guess ill just deal with the browser.

Can I block AI content on yt tv?

My 3 yo brother loves watching youtube on TV and even tho we manage his screentime I would love for his time to be on educational videos and all. The issue is most of the videos on the feed are full of ai slop and brainrot, you can expect why I don't want him to grow up exposed to these things.

I recently (as in the last 2 hours) started getting ads on youtube again. I use brave browser with agressive adblocking, and proton vpn with netshield, I reset my cookies for youtube and that didn't work, did the same to my browser. And switched countries a few times, nothing worked, does anyone have a solution?

Hi! I watched Itvx (in the uk) on my laptop a lot, and I do have an ad blocker, so before when i watched anything id have no ads, but now suddenly whenever i watch anything (specifically itvx) i have to watch loads of ads!
Does anyone know what i could do about this or why its happening? I cant afford to pay the monthly subscription lol although that would be the easiest option. Again, this is only on my laptop not tv!

As of today (9/9/2026) Twitch lags like crazy on all browsers using all adblocks. Anyone got it working?

Tried Chrome, Comet, Brave with: Ublock Origin Lite, AdGuard + Extra, Twitch Adblock, Enabled experimental lists in Brave.

Still lags, interrupts the video, video pauses, black screens, twitch chat disconnects. The full house of issues.

This didnt happen yesterday.

YouTube is detecting blockers

I use brave browser and also have UBlock Origin. YouTube detected it. Disabled UBlock, and YouTube still detected it. Then tried whitelisting YouTube in brave and YouTube still didn’t let me proceed. Turns out I also had YouTube shorts blocker and once I turned that off, YouTube started working normally again. Anyone else experienced this? submitted by /u/Decent-Woodpecker420 [link] [comments]

Does a whole-home ad blocker actually work well?

Has anyone here tried a whole-home ad blocker? I'm thinking about getting one, but I'm not sure how well they actually work. Do they block ads reliably across phones, PCs, smart TVs, etc.? And is it worth buying one, or are there better/cheaper alternatives? Would love to hear from people who have actually used one.

Do you use an ad blocker mainly for the ads or for the tracking?

Most people probably install an ad blocker because they're tired of seeing ads everywhere, but blocking trackers might actually be the more useful part. Even if I didn't mind seeing a few ads, I'd still rather not have a bunch of trackers following me across different sites.

What about you? If ads became less annoying tomorrow, would you still keep your ad blocker just for the privacy side of it?

Using YouTube in a mobile browser makes me feel uncomfortable

When I click on a video from the homepage of YouTube in my browser to watch it, and then slide back to the previous page using the sidebar, the homepage automatically refreshes, which is very annoying for me.l hope that when I return, I can stil see the recommended videos l initially saw, just like in the app. I don't want to use the app，because it has too many advertisements.Before using revanced, I have to open microG every time, which I don't like.

Use the embedded player to avoid ads on Youtube

A lot of people are complaining about their AdBlocker not working on Youtube every now and then. Its a constant cat and mouse game, so if you use Youtube often, you will almost always have some sort of an issue.
Luckily, there is an easy fix for this. Simply use their embedded version of the player. It was originally meant for watching videos on different sites, but due to their contract with advertisers, it is ad-free on most sites (https://youtubeembedcode.com/en/).

However, the UI is really bad. Not sure why they like the mobile design so much. 360 videos don’t even work in it. Luckily, I made a fix for it, so you can use the nocookie version of Youtube to enjoy ad-free playback again.

6 Month YT Ad War. No adblockers currently working on YT. No Adblockers have worked for YT in the last 6 months, causing videos to auto mute on playback or selection. 6 months of not being able to use adblockers on YT. Need Advice ASAP.

After Months of Development, My Ad Blocker Is Finally Feeling Stable

After several months of development, testing, debugging, researching, and trying out different approaches, I finally feel that my open-source ad blocker has reached a reasonably stable state.

It started as a small personal project focused on blocking ads and trackers while keeping the extension lightweight and simple. Over time, I kept improving it, rewriting parts of the implementation, testing different approaches, and learning a lot along the way.

There are definitely still things that can be improved, but I’m quite happy with where the project is today and how it performs during everyday browsing.

I finally found the solution for YouTube to be re-assistive again for me as an Android user!😭💥💫

I was exploring a mod site of apks that I usually visit and I found a version of SmartTube made to be compatible and usable on Android devices, and contains an option in this wonderful application in which you can totally block the channel, it's not exactly the same on YouTube in which you block the channel just from commenting on your videos, this totally hides the contents and never makes this blocked channel appear even in your recommendations!, NO MORE AI SLOP AND MISLEADING CHANNELS!, FINALLY MAKE THIS PLATFORM HAVE NICE QUALITY CONTENTS AGAIN!😎🔥💯

What’s the first thing you turn off when a website stops working: Ad blocker, VPN or DNS filtering?

You know that moment when a site suddenly won’t load properly and you have no idea what’s breaking it? Could be the VPN, the ad blocker, or some DNS filter running in the background.

I usually end up turning things off one by one until it works again. But it got me thinking: if a privacy tool regularly breaks websites and you have to disable it anyway, is it actually protecting you or just creating more problems?

Can't get rid of Ads.

So long story short, for some reason YouTube keeps spamming ads for some dating website name Taimi at me. I've blocked them, and sent messages saying I don't think some of these ads are appropriate when your apparently trying to make the main app into the kids app, and for like the past 2 days I've seen an ad for it at least 3 times.

They removed this from the YouTube reddit page even tho I've told them that they keep sending them.
