If you're running paid acquisition. how confident are you that your tracking data is actually accurate?

Please look more closely at your metrics. With the rise of advanced content blockers, privacy-focused browsers, and network-level tools like Pi-hole, a massive chunk of your target audience isn’t just skipping your ads; they are completely invisible to your pixels

The Blind Spots in Your Analytics

Standard client-side tracking (like the basic Meta Pixel or Google Analytics tag) is increasingly vulnerable. When users deploy strict privacy settings or extension-based blockers:

  • Skewed CPA & ROAS: Your dashboard might tell you a campaign is underperforming simply because the conversions from ad-block users aren't registering.
  • Data Attribution Gaps: Server-side API tracking (like Conversions API) helps, but it still doesn't completely solve the data loss from first-touch attribution.
  • Wasted Budget: You might be over-optimizing for a specific demographic just because they happen to use less restrictive browser extensions.

Let’s Discuss: How Are You Solving This?

For those managing serious ad spend, how are you bypassing these tracking blind spots while respecting user digital privacy and digital security?

  • Are you relying entirely on server-side tracking?
  • Have you shifted your KPIs toward blended ROAS and MER (Marketing Efficiency Ratio)?
  • Or are you accepting a 15–20% "data tax" as the cost of doing business?

Drop your strategies or your horror stories below. Let’s figure out how much data we're actually losing.

What am I missing

Hi. I’m using Technitium blocking:

https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/hagezi/dns-blocklists@latest/adblock/pro.txt
https://phishing.army/download/phishing_army_blocklist.txt
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts
https://urlhaus.abuse.ch/downloads/hostfile/

On my raspberry pi. I use tailscale to use technitium as DNS Server for all my devices

On pc I use ublock Origin. On mobile I use YouTube++ and Spotify++ via SideStore.

I pretty much don’t see ads anywhere, but I’m wondering what am I missing? I want to know the most creative ideas to block ads everywhere. Tv, irl, elsewhere? Any out of the box ideas?

Basic addblock extension

Just after a very basic "safe" extension based addblocker for edge browser.

Doesn't need to block YT adds or anything like that. Just something to help prevent some of the awkward popups that take up half the screen and all the cookie requests. Would also like something that reduces some of the tracking that websites do without changing a browser.

Just looking for suggestions for the safest extension that is also functional.

AdBlock tests better on Chrome than on Brave

I wanted to test how good my ad block in Brave is and compare it to Chrome with Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin Lite installed. I used adblock.turtlecute.org (I found it randomly) and I was pretty shocked by results. In Brave I have aggressive blocking turned on + the same extensions like in Chrome installed but the results were better for Chrome. Brave results were 74% blocked scripts, Chrome's were 77%. It's a slight difference but I didn't expect it. I also set Chrome's privacy settings as good as possible.

Adguard CLI for Linux help

Installed the CLI accordingly on my Fedora workstation setup, activated license, even got as far as to adding dns and filtering lists I wanted, selected them with the “X”.

With HTTP and SOCKS5 on default IPs, now my problem is; the PROXY mode on manual renders both my systemwide filtering and system wide DNS filtering DISABLED. (As shown when the “status” command is used)

With PROXY mode on auto, both systemwide filtering modes are ENABLED, however my internet is now completely broken, cannot load anything. Obviously, I need to have these two modes on Enabled for Adguard to be of any use, so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

With more and more sites serving markdown to AI bots, I figure why not just use it ourselves?

No ads, no tracking JS, no cookie banners, no upsell models, no nothing. Just the actual content you want, made possible by the fact that sites are happy to serve you bloated webpages riddled with crap but will give a bot exactly what they want

I've built a little proof of concept (Firefox only) but I don't see any reason why this isn't something adblockers could start adding?

What is going on with YouTube ads in Brave?

Hi guys, youtube ads randomly started showing up in Brave today, even though I didnt change anything in my settings. Shields used to blck everything fine, but now I get ads at the start of every video. btw, I updated Shields and tried aggressive filtering, but nothing changed. Same thing is happening on both mac and windows... i installed uBlock Origin which helps a bit, but it still doesnt fully fix the issue. did youtube change something today, and Brave is having issues?

Also, I tried posting this in the Brave subreddit first, but Reddit filters blocks my post for some reason i ignore. That is why I am asking here.

What if Firefox wont allow uBlockOrigin anymore?

As we non-normies know, uBlockOrigin and Firefox is the best combo as of now to block ads. However, what if one day this starts to fail too? - Is there a backup plan? I feel uneasy having only one browser and one adbock-addon left where I feel truly able to have an adfree internet experience. The sharks at the big companies will realize this too and squash our last bastion of freedom. What do you guys think?

StreamBlock (Open Source) – Looking for Feedback

I've been working on an open-source browser extension called StreamBlock.

The original goal was solving a problem I kept running into on Twitch: most ad blockers either stop working or replace ads with a black screen while you wait for the stream to return.

StreamBlock uses a different approach. During Twitch ad breaks, it switches to an ad-free backup stream and automatically returns to the main stream when the ad break ends, so you can keep watching instead of staring at a black screen.

Current features:

  • Twitch ad blocking
  • YouTube ad blocking
  • Tracker blocking
  • Open source
  • Free to use
  • No account required

The project is still in beta, and I'm mainly looking for feedback from people who use Twitch and YouTube regularly.

GitHub (source code):
https://github.com/numixtheofficial/streamblock.online-chrome-extension

Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/streamblock/dfjgehcmajlgpkmjlmacaookmjlhgiag

Website:
https://streamblock.online/

I'd especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Reliability
  • Performance (CPU/RAM usage)
  • Twitch compatibility
  • Conflicts with other extensions
  • Bugs and edge cases

Happy to answer any technical questions.

For some reason I'm still using adblock plus (adblock browser on android) alongside firefox with ublock origin

A few hours ago if I go to a fandom/wikia page, there are 100% no ads, but now there are ads as if there is no adblocker there. On firefox with ublock origin as redditors said, there are 1000% no ads at all. What does this mean???

Does YouTube think you’re a bot for using an adblocker?

So recently whenever I try to watch YouTube off the app I can’t watch any videos because I get the “sign in to prove you aren’t a bot“ thing.

I have never had this issue before and I wonder if it’s from my adblocker (I use uBlock lite).

How to make AdBlock 360 bulletproof against aggressive ads (Pure Domain List)

Hey everyone,

If you are using AdBlock 360 and still seeing some bypass ads, trackers, or annoying pop-ups, you need to upgrade your blocklist game. Standard filters just don't cut it anymore against modern, aggressive ad networks.

I've prepared an extreme, pure domain list specifically optimized for AdBlock 360. I stripped down all the junk, metadata, and useless comment lines so your phone won't lag, freeze, or crash when loading it. It contains over 90,000 pure domains focused entirely on nuking:

Aggressive Ads & Pop-ups (The ones that bypass normal blockers) Heavy Trackers & Analytics (Stopping scripts and apps from spying on your data) Malware & Phishing links

Since I imported this custom domain list into my AdBlock 360, my browsing experience has been flawless and super fast. No lag, no aggressive ads, just pure internet.

I've uploaded the clean, raw list to GitHub so you can easily import it:

Go to your AdBlock 360 settings, import this repository link into your custom filters/lists, and enjoy the ultimate protection! 🔥

Allowlist broke after installing 2nd adblocker, remains broken even after keeping only 1

A few days ago, Fandom/wikia started somehow bypassing my adblocker (Adblock Pro) on my iphone. I downloaded AdGuard per the suggestion of another user, and it sadly did not change the situation with Fandom. I uninstalled AdGuard since I only need one adblocker, but now the allowlist on Adblock Pro is broken. This is a problem since my allowlist is for sites that hide the entire page if it detects an adblocker, like tv tropes. I assumed it was because I didn't turn off the AdGuard extensions on Safari before uninstalling, so I redownloaded AdGuard to turn the extensions off and then uninstalled AdGuard, but my allowlist is still broken. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Should I switch from Meta Ads to Google Ads for pre-owned iPhones? (South Africa)

Looking for some honest advice on whether I should switch to Google Ads or if the issue is deeper than the platform.

I run a pre-owned iPhone business in South Africa.

On Meta, things look good on paper:

Strong CTR, CPC, and overall engagement

Lots of add-to-carts and checkout initiations

Cheap traffic and solid reach

But conversions are the problem. I’ve spent around R14k total and only got about 6 sales across campaigns. Traffic comes in, people browse, but very few actually complete payment.

What I’m seeing in practice:

A lot of people are interested but don’t end up buying

Many can’t afford the device

A big portion fail BNPL approval

Others want long-term installment plans (12 months+)

It feels more like low purchasing power / low qualification than lack of demand

Business setup:

Competitive pricing for SA market

BNPL + cash options

Warranty, returns, reviews, trust signals, etc.

Limited stock (~15 devices rotating)

Main question: Would switching to Google Ads actually improve this by bringing in higher-intent buyers (people actively searching “buy iPhone 13” etc.), or is this mainly a conversion/affordability issue that will persist no matter the platform?

Would appreciate insights from anyone who’s run both in a similar space.

Is there way to block Sponsored recommendations on youtube's main page?

I'm using uBlock with Firefox desktop and just today those started showing up. Every top left video on main page is always sponsored. Sometimes it's a regular ad, sometimes it's some bullshit video that I'd never be interested in watching.

Top left is full hour long sponsored movie, bottom right is an ad and I'd love to see them gone.

NymVPN <> Brave Adblocker

Built on Brave's open source engine, one of the most comprehensive and consistently maintained block lists in the industry, it works at the DNS level. That means it blocks ads, trackers and malicious domains across every app on your device, not just your browser. No extension required. Toggle it on and it works immediately.

This week Google announced it is disabling real adblockers in Chrome 149. The company that makes the vast majority of its revenue from advertising is removing the tool that blocks those ads from the browser used by 65% of the internet.

The timing is worth noting.

Time to switch

Time to switch

Well, Google are doing this thing of chasing away people from their ecosystem everyday. I get the point that they make money from ads. But I think they're doing too much forcing it on people, especially in a net where malvertising is somewhat a normal practice. What sense would it make for someone who can't properly browse the net because 60% of real time view is made up of ads, or even pop-ups consisting of fake cancels or no button being yes as well. Guess they care more about revenue that user experience these days smh.

Adblock forTwitch

Hi everyone, since the CS Major has been going on I wanted to watch some pros give their takes on the matches, so I openedtwitch. The amount of ads I got within a span of 10 minutes sent me on a mission to never watch ads again.

So I built an app for Windows (Linux, Android, and Android TV coming soon) that lets you watch streams completely ad free. I took inspiration from pixeltris's TAS repo and built on top of that idea, except this is a full native desktop client rather than a browser extension. It is free, open source, and all your data stays on your own device. The only time anything leaves is when you log in throughTwitch's own OAuth, so PureTV never sees your password or stores your credentials anywhere.

Repo: https://github.com/dhawal-ss/puretv

Would love feedback, and if anyone wants to contribute the Android and TV builds are already in the repo.

Enjoy and have fun gamers!

I Built a YouTube Timestamps Extension... and Accidentally Discovered It Can Help Skip Ads

I Built a YouTube Timestamps Extension... and Accidentally Discovered It Can Help Skip Ads

Hi guys, Just a quick note: English isn't my native language, so I used a translator to help with this post. Hopefully everything still makes sense.

If you watch long YouTube videos like lectures, podcasts, tutorials, or deep dives, you're probably familiar with timestamps. They're one of those simple features that make long videos much easier to navigate.

At the same time, you've probably noticed that getting to them isn't always very convenient.

It's not exactly a huge problem, obviously, nobody's losing sleep over having to click an extra button. But if you want to see the timestamps, you usually have to scroll down, click the tiny "Show more" button, expand the description, and only then can you access them.

It's just one extra click and a couple of seconds, no big deal, but it turns out there are plenty of people who absolutely hate unnecessary clicks. The kind of people who are obsessed with productivity, efficiency, and making interfaces as frictionless as possible. For them, even a small annoyance is enough reason to start looking for a better solution.

https://preview.redd.it/g59h7am21l6h1.png?width=1205&format=png&auto=webp&s=0a8a8ee7c5384bfc003ec11376fafc1db7823c24

I'm not quite that extreme myself, but honestly, if I can avoid an extra click, I'd rather avoid it. That's basically why I started building this extension. The idea was simple: display the timestamps automatically in a sidebar next to the video as soon as the page loads.

Like many side projects, it started as something I built for myself, after using it for a while, I figured other people might find it useful too, so I decided to release it publicly.

So what does Timestamps actually do?

https://preview.redd.it/2sqr5e8c2l6h1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=71fdbfcff8cf651ef40fd875512101c98c60baf5

When you open a YouTube video, the extension automatically finds all the timestamps in the video's description and displays them in a clean sidebar next to the player.

The goal was to make it feel like a native YouTube feature rather than something bolted on afterward. Open a video, and all the chapters are already visible, no scrolling, no opening the description, no extra clicks.

Just click the section you want and jump straight to it.

If a video doesn't have timestamps, the extension simply doesn't activate. In that case, YouTube looks exactly the same as it always has. No timestamps means there's nothing for the extension to display.

A couple of downsides:

1. Desktop only

At least for now, it only works on desktop because it's a browser extension. Most people watch YouTube on phones through the official app, where browser extensions aren't really an option.

2. Occasionally things can break

This one surprised me when I first released it.

YouTube constantly runs interface experiments and A/B tests. Different users can see slightly different layouts at the same time. Because of that, an extension that works perfectly for one group of users might display incorrectly for another.

At first I spent way too much time worrying about this until I learned that it's simply part of building tools around a platform as large as YouTube.

Whenever I get reports about display issues, I usually investigate them, release a fix, and submit an update to Google. The actual fix often takes a day or two. The review process can take another day or two depending on how quickly the update gets approved.

The bonus feature I never planned!!! (This is the reason why I decided to publish this article in this subreddit)

While testing the extension, I accidentally discovered something unexpected.

Honestly, this little discovery might end up being almost as useful as the main feature itself.

Most people aren't exactly fans of YouTube ads. Especially those long ads before a video starts, or the videos that seem to get interrupted every few minutes.

During testing, I noticed that if an ad starts playing and I immediately click any timestamp in the sidebar, YouTube jumps forward and the Skip button appears almost instantly. Instead of sitting through 20 or 30 seconds of ads, I just click a timestamp and move on.

The interesting part is that this isn't an ad blocker, a hack, or any kind of workaround that modifies YouTube. As far as I can tell, YouTube itself handles the timestamp jump and ends up moving past the ad segment as part of that process.

Will YouTube eventually patch this? Maybe. I honestly have no idea, but at the time of writing, it seems to work.

The funny thing is that I found this completely by accident while stress-testing the extension and clicking every button I could think of.

Now it's become part of my normal workflow. I'm watching a video, an ad starts, I click a visible timestamp, and I'm back to the content almost immediately.

The only downside is that it only works on videos that actually have timestamps.

When I first discovered this behavior, I considered highlighting it in the Chrome Web Store listing. Then I realized YouTube could change things tomorrow and I'd end up promising something that no longer works.

So I left it out of the official description. Still, I thought it was worth mentioning here because it's genuinely useful. I also have a few ideas that might make the experience even better in future updates.

Why this feels especially relevant right now?

https://preview.redd.it/4xvxqly73l6h1.png?width=550&format=png&auto=webp&s=46e1cbf736d1090071afc3c81d6d155b211ca1ba

Over the last few years, YouTube has become much more aggressive with ads.

At the same time, traditional ad blockers have had a harder time keeping up. YouTube actively detects and limits many of them, and users occasionally run into restrictions or warning messages because of the blockers they're using.

Of course, YouTube Premium solves the problem completely, but not everyone wants to pay for another monthly subscription.

Who might find Timestamps useful?

You might like it if you:

· Watch long educational videos and want faster navigation

· Frequently jump between different sections of podcasts, lectures, or tutorials

· Get annoyed by YouTube ads but don't want another subscription

· Like making small improvements to your daily workflow

· Enjoy trying new tools and browser extensions

If any of those sound familiar, it's probably worth giving it a shot

How to install it?

The extension is available in the Chrome Web Store and takes about 10 seconds to install.

No registration, no account creation, and no email verification required.

Just search for: Timestamps – Handy Timestamps Right of Video

or use the direct link below 👇👇👇.

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/timestamps-handy-timestam/gjaapmibjaaimjblibkcnehojjnppfhp

If you're using browsers like Edge, Opera, or Firefox, there may be ways to install it there as well, although the process is usually less straightforward than it is in Chrome. I haven't tested every browser yet, so if you've tried it outside Chrome, I'd be interested to hear about your experience.

Feedback is welcome

If you decide to try the extension, I'd genuinely appreciate your feedback.

Does everything display correctly on your setup?

Does the timestamp navigation work as expected?

And if you happen to test the ad-skipping behavior I mentioned earlier, I'd be curious to know whether it works for you as well.

Questions, suggestions, bug reports, feature requests - i'll do my best to respond and help however I can.

Thanks for reading.

FBI/Palo Alto World Cup Alert: 174+ spoofed domains. How are you hardening your Adblock filters?

A new security report on CybersecAsia citing the FBI, Palo Alto, and Kaspersky warns that cybercriminals are using the World Cup as a massive threat vector. The FBI has already mapped over 174 fake FIFA portals, Palo Alto is tracking malware hidden inside sideloaded streaming apps, and Kaspersky found that 17% of public Wi-Fi networks have zero encryption. As a enthusiast who focuses on risk management, I know that basic out of the box extensions won't cut it against this incoming wave of malicious ad networks, in app trackers, and aggressive script injections when fans start hunting for live streams.

To build a proper margin of safety, I am tuning my ad blocking setup by layering advanced anti phishing lists to kill those fake domains and using strict dynamic filtering to intercept malicious redirects before they execute. I have also pushed my Smart TV and streaming boxes onto an isolated media VLAN so that even if a sketchy stream slips past a cosmetic filter, the threat is sandboxed away from my personal PC and financial data. So, how are you guys updating your filter, custom scripts, or uBlock rules to handle the World Cup traffic?

my chrome browser’s outdated, can i do anything?

My browser is a few years out of date and every ad blocker i look for either won’t run (downloaded through play store) or i can’t even download because my browser is old (extensions on chrome web store). I have the last possible version updated so i can’t go any further than Version 103.0.5060.132 i don’t know the last time i updated it but i’ve had it since i was 13 and i’m about to turn 20, there’s a lot i can’t do anymore on it should i just try to get a new one or is there any hope for it?

if it helps i just need a ad blocker for “movie” websites with a lot of pop up ads that get in the way.

How to block banner ads in desktop mail client?

How to block banner ads in desktop mail client?

The first screenshot is of an email newsletter when viewed through the icloud web client. I've got the Adblock chrome extension installed, so there are no ads. The second screenshot is of the same email when viewed via the default macos mail desktop app. How can I replicate the ad blocking I have in the browser version in the desktop app?

Can’t get rid of ads on Cambridge Dictionary website

I use NextDNS on my iPhone and applied a few popular adblocker lists. They’ve been working very well and block most ads on my phone, except recently - Cambridge Dictionary website is still heavily infested with intrusive ads no matter how many filters I applied. No adblocker seems to be able to get rid of them. My phone scored 97 on adblock turtlecute test website. And I get cloudfare verification very often when I browse websites now due to the massive lists of entries I use

Youtube Threatening to Block Videos for using Adblocker?

so In the last few months Youtube has been getting a bunch of updates and one seems to let them know when you are using an adblocker. Lately I have been getting lot's of these pop ups on youtube telling me they can see im using an adblocker and that I should Buy Youtube Premium. but today i get a pop up over my video telling me that I had 3 chances to either turn off my adblocker for youtube or buy youtube premium or they would block video packages from being sent to my IP or something. so I turned off my Adblocker for now but im looking for any advice on how to fix this.

if it matters, Im using Opera GX as my browser and Im using the Opera Adblocker as my adblocker. should I Use a different Adblocker or switch browsers or something?

Tip if you just want to totally ignore youtube/other apps ads with Roku TVs

I realize its more than its worth to me to go all out with network blocking of ads, esp youtube ads for my Roku tvs so i found a simple solution that keeps me from having to listen or see the ads.

It doesnt block the ad, as you still have to wait for it to finish but I dont have to hear nor see anything but a few seconds, all I do is once an ad starts, i mute the tv then hit the option button and push the *up* arrow (EDIT srry i said down by mistake) once to select the "Picture off" selection and then i wait a minute or so and then push the ok button and either hit skip or the ad will already have played through.

Sure its not skipping the ad, i cannot stand ads but i know how ad revenue works so I figure since the ad plays through, youtube still gets paid and I dont have to sit through any of the bs.

Not sure how ACR works but i figure the picture off setting doesnt block what it recognizes since its on the hardware end so youtube thinks the ad was served.

I use this on other apps sometimes but not nearly as much as i do with youtube, their ads are the worst.

*This obviously struck a nerve, i originally posted this to the Roku forum and it got removed within hours. If this is helpful to you pls repost this everywhere its relevant rofl.

uBlock Origin Lite on Chrome is not blocking Facebook ads – is there a better setting or filter list

I'm currently using uBlock Origin Lite on Chrome and it's simply not blocking Facebook ads. The ads are showing up everywhere on FB – in the feed, in the sidebar, everywhere.

I understand that Chrome's Manifest V3 limitations have crippled uBO Lite compared to the full uBlock Origin, but I'm stuck with Chrome for now.

A few things I want to know:

  • Is there a specific filter list I should enable in uBO Lite to target Facebook ads?
  • Are there any settings tweaks that actually make a difference?
  • Is uBO Lite even capable of blocking FB ads at this point, or is it fundamentally broken for this use case?

Currently running:

  • Browser: Chrome (latest)
  • Extension: uBlock Origin Lite
  • Issue: Facebook ads not being blocked at all

Any help or insight from people who've dealt with this would be appreciated. What's actually working for blocking Facebook ads on Chrome right now?

Looking for a good adblock for Samsung mobile

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm really tired of ads on YouTube and twitch so I'm finally looking for a good ad blocker for my phone (Samsung Galaxy A16 specifically)

I'd look for it myself but I'm tech-illiterate and stupid so I don't even know where to start. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Block ads on bloomberg.com/live

I watch live TV via bloomberg.com. They had an absolute ton of ads and they are routinely the same ads 2x in a row. Is there a way to automatically mute the ads? I know with Pluto On-Demand you can block them, this is a different beast. This is a live show.

I also use Charles Schwab's software Think or Swim and it will mute ads for CNBC but I can't listen to that channel anymore - just horrific but I really do like that feature.

edit: I watch via Chrome but I could use a different browser. If this is a stupid question, just delete it - sorry.

Free VPN to Block YouTube App Ads?

I love watching YouTube through the iOS app on my iPad but the ads are starting to get relentless and miserable. Is there a free VPN I can download on my iPad to change my server location and stop getting ads? Or some other way to avoid ads within the app so I don't have to switch to the browser?

Are ublock + ublock lite getting spammed with ads from YouTube?

For around the last week, I can't watch any YouTube on my pc because the videos just keep refreshing themselves. I have been using one of the VPN's that OperaGX has, and its helped get around the interruptions and watch stuff.

Now though, I am noticing that UB and UB lite are apparently blocking over 1,000 ads whenever I try to watch something?

i'm also looking for other adblockers that youtube won't detect, if there's any? thanks.

How do I get rid of these pre-installed ads on my tablet?

How do I get rid of these pre-installed ads on my tablet?

I got a tablet for my little brother, but these ads pop up all the time. Even on Netflix where I pay for no ads!

I tried doing what it said on google, but no solution helped me.

Tried the DNS thing, factory reset, and checked apps that could be doing it but nothing sticks out.

Does anyone know what I need to do to prevent these ads?

Can someone please recommend me an adblocker, preferably one for free?
