It might actually be over for us Luna VPN bros (for the YouTube app)

Wanted to start by saying I do not know anything about how ads work or really anything about how the internet works. I am not an expert by any means.

I’m just a user of LunaVPN for about 6+ years now and I’ve gone through it all with this VPN. I even remember the app Luna had. However, in all my time, I’ve never seen it down for this long. Also, when it is down, it has always been the same thing. When it doesn’t work for the YT app, there always been ads on the home page and videos loaded fine, just with ads. However, now the YT app acts strangely with Luna enabled, with long buffer times, no ads on the home page but ads in videos still. The fact it still is blocking most Safari ads and ads in games tells me Luna is still functional, but just not on YT (and I think Twitch although I don’t really use Twitch).

All to say, idk about y’all, but I’ve pretty much given up on it actually working on the YT app in the near future. Whatever YT recently just did to stop ads might’ve actually killed Luna fr. If anyone has any success reaching out to the Luna team or Sensor Tower, the owners of Luna, lmk what they say.

RIP Luna VPN: 201X - 2024 😭

adblock not working on youtube - new anti-adblock from youtube

so yeah, the old youtube anti-adblock pop-up could easilly be ignored, but today when I watched a video, a new pop up appeared saying something in the likes of "if you watch 3 videos with adblock on, then we wont allow it".
I ignored it, went for another video, message pop ups again "if you watch 2 more videos, we wont allow it"
I ignore it, went for a third video and now it doesnt even load up the video, just the youtube message that tells me how i can deactive adblock. the video wont play as long as its activated. i tried different videos, but everything is blocked now.
Sorry for my bad english.

I use chrome plus ublock origin.

Having trouble saving my settings with Adblock

Not sure if this is happening to you as well. but the past couple of days Youtube and other websites have started showing ads again. Long 30 second up to even 4 minute ads... I keep going to the settings and each time see that "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" and "Acceptable Ads" are checked. Each time I uncheck it and exit the window, I find it did nothing and upon accessing the settings menu again, I see that it's back to being checked. Am I missing a step and not "saving" my settings? Where would I do that if so?

Is the Chrome extension for Adblock just not working anymore? Did they switch to a paid model?

It's hilarious that they call what they are giving me non-intrusive ads. These ads are very intrusive... they come up randomly in the middle of a video I'm watching. What's more intrusive than that? I'm tired of these motherfucking ads on my motherfucking browser!

[Chrome app] that will automatically deselect 'Preferred Vendors' to 'Do not Accept' when entering a new website...rather than manually going down the list and deselecting each manually??

I apologise if this isn't the correct forum for making such a request.

Everytime I access a new website, a Window pops up, asking me about the [Preferred Vendors] and [Legitimate Interests].

Everytime I have to manually deselect each option, and it is frustrating having to do this repeatedly for various websites throughout the day.

Does anyone know of any app that will automatically or deselect all icons all-at-once?

Any assistance or directions would be very much appreciated. Thankyou!

"Mirrored" version of YouTube??

Hi, recently I was watching a video covering the extensive measures YouTube has gone to get rid of adblockers and some workarounds to combat it. At around 4:41 of this YouTube video from Galaxius, there's this image of what they refer to as a "mirrored" version of YouTube without ads.

I've seen this home page several times before, but haven't been able to locate it, even in the original Reddit post that is mentioned as context for this mirrored YouTube.

Just wondering if anybody knows of the URL or can help me locate it?? Thanks a lot in advance :D

Is ad-blocking killing my video suggestion feed?

So somehow so far I've miraculously managed to avoid youtube breaking from ad blocking.

Using uBlock and some tampermonkey script (and NoScript but I doubt it plays a role here)

Lately I've noticed when I open a video, the video loads 3 times before loading finishes. Some videos I cannot watch at all because "embedding to external sites is disabled" even though I opened them on YT. If I press play before the video finished loading 3 times, the video will start playing after the 3rd load but there will be a desynched audio track on top of the playing video's audio track (like I started playing the first loading video and the audio track kept rolling while yt reloads the video 2 times and then starts playing the final loading of the video with it's audio over the still running audio from the first load).

All of this I can deal with but...

...the past couple days I've noticed my suggested videos barely change. Youtube keeps suggesting the same videos over and over even if I just watched them. And with the behaviours above (especially the not being able to play videos that are restricted from embedding) I'm starting to feel like the adblocking scripts might actually interfere with YT reliably realizing what I have already watched. Comparable to how when I watch an embedded video on reddit it never seemed to mess with my suggestion algorythm as if yt doesn't register that my acc watched it.

Am I going mad or is this something others have noticed as well? I do get some new suggestions from time to time but it feels fishy as hell.

Introducing CtrlBlock a Mv3 based ad blocker

Hey,

My name is Winsley. I've worked on AdBlock and Adblock Plus for the past couple of years, and I've now created my own ad blocker: CtrlBlock.

CtrlBlock's premise is to make it super easy to report problems with a page (ads not being blocked, cookie pop-ups partially blocked, or similar issues) and to build a toolchain around that to create a feedback loop/mechanism in order to improve and fix problems quickly.

At the moment it's only available via the Chrome Web Store but I'm looking to publish it on all major browsers soon.

It's free and open-source. Please give it a try. I would love to hear what you think.

Cheers
Winsley

Is google not afraid that fighting adblock will cost them more that they can gain?

This is mostly regarding chromium switch to manifest V3 from V2, but also de-adblocking google chrome in general. For context, google apparently spends an eye watering 26 B$ a year to be a default search engine on browsers. All of that with chrome taking 75% of browser market + edge being not buyable - so they efectively spend around 26B to acquire 20% of market. From this we could estimate that a loss of market share of each 1% costs them an additional 1B a year (obviously it is not that simple - the deal will probably not scale that linearly with market share, but it is probably a good enough estimate for our needs).

Now - the thing is - if adblockers stop functioning on chrome, a lot of people will consider switching. Adblocks are pretty main stream at this point, and those who use it today will certainly immediately "feel" it not working, and look for alternatives - like firefox on which everything is going to continue to work as expected. And both browsers are effectively identical for 95% of users. They usually pick chrome because everyone uses chrome.

We can argue about "power of defaults" and "most people do not switch", but to be honest - its not like chrome needs to stop being no. 1 for google to feel it. If chrome goes down from 75% to 65%, it is about 10B a year.

Every website gets one shot to serve me ads. Most blow it and I need to complain about it or I'll go mad.

Every time I try a new website the ad-shields go down. If the ads don't detract from the experience I will keep the shields down forever for that website. If the ads are intrusive it goes back up.

What blows my damn mind is how many mobile news sites will have a scrolling banner ad at the top, scrolling banner at the bottom, ads on the sides, and an accursed video ad that follows your screen around jabbering about stupid crap that makes me hate whatever product is being sold because it's physically in the way of what I'm actually trying to see.

Another thing that pisses me off is every website now will let you hang out there for about 15 seconds before they shove something in your face begging for your e-mail so you can subscribe to their spambot. If there was a subscribe link at the bottom of the article there's like a 0.1% chance I might be interested if I like your website and its content.

It's an absolute joke at this point. Ads following you obscuring the text, squishing your screen so you can't see more than 2 paragraphs of the actual content at once, bloody popups ... I'm outing myself as a crabby old man but for crying out loud when I was a kid this is what happened when your computer got a virus. The services themselves are absolute malware, and they typically steal your information like malware too!

I'm willing to put up with stationary adverts interspersed with the stuff I'm reading and on the sides of the screen. The moment it starts to obscure my vision or starts filling the air with babbling nonsense your website loses its ad privileges.

I wish I could block the ads on the screens at the Euros

I know its not possible but I just gotta rant about this sht cause having those blinking screens all around the whole soccer field, some having whole animations on them with flashing letters is just so annoying. Everytime there is some close up shot of a goal or a foul, you got a huge blinking brand logo in the back, not being able to avoid looking at it in any way.

Not to mention the kind of adds that are being played, like Visit Qatar. You telling me that I should visit a country that would probably whip and hang me in public for being bisexual? And in Germany, a country that is known for being a great living place for minorities? Who allowed an add like that being played in the first place? (Yeah UEFA probably, those money hungry beasts)

Google results: anyone else still seeing ads?

Hey all, been using adblock for years, and have always specified to NOT show ad results when doing a Google search. It's worked well for a while, but just recently it's suddenly stopped. Multiple times, whatever I search, I'm getting spammed with up to 5 ad results before anything else, which often requires me to scroll the length of two entire screens worth of 'results' JUST to get to what I actually need.

Someone please tell me there's a solution for this, either in adblock's settings or even if it requires adding another ad-blocking addon, I just want to actually see an answer when I Google for it.

And to clarify: I've already gone into Adblock Plus's settings and confirmed I've unticked 'show acceptable ads', which seems to be the go-to answer on how to fix this, but it hasn't helped.

Any advice?

Updated method to bypass youtube's ad blocker detection

As you probably know youtube is constantly updating their methods to "detect" the usage of adblockers. And since we'd all rather waste our time on watching actual videos instead being interrupted by advertisements.
But! The internet wouldn't be the internet if we didn't find a solution for this "problem".

If you think that it's 'too difficult' or 'too much work', you're probably forgetting the "compound effect"
Simple scenario: Let's say you get 20 ads a day averaging 20 seconds while watching youtube video's. That's almost 7 minutes per day, which doesn't seem like too much at first glance. But if you use youtube every day, that's over 40 hours per year.

So it's time to put on your grown-up hat and follow these 6 simple steps.

Step 1: Turn off all browser extensions (which are related to adblocking and/or youtube). Remove or temporary disable any ad blocker you might have (This is to prevent potential interference) After that restart your browser.

Step 2: Install the browser extension uBlock Origin. (Do not install the wrong Ublock extension! The extension is called Ublock Origin, and nothing else.)

Step 3: Go to uBlock origin dashboard. (Click on the uBlock origin extension which should be somewhere on the top right of your browser toolbar. If you don't see it, it might be under extensions. Click on the "puzzle" icon named extensions and it should be there. After clicking on the uBlock origin icon a menu should pop-up. In the bottom right corner you should see 3 gears. Click on that to open the dashboard.

Step 4: Click on the tab "My Filters"

Step 5: Copy and paste the following code and save the changes.

youtube.com##+js(set,yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)
youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Step 6: Restart your browser and enjoy ad free youtube.

Extra notes:

If it doesn't work try the following:

Uninstall ublock origin and reinstall. (Don't forget to add the filter again)
Check for interfering extensions. (youtube enhancers / adblockers)
Empty your cache.

Enjoy :)

Idea in response to youtubes plan for server side ad injection

IDEA for a new adblock method in response to youtubes planned server side ad injection

A script that detects the servers data it sends that is meant to edit in ads and then figure out what code communicates back to the server that tells it its successfully injected the ads and just block the server side injection when the extension detects the code the server sends to inject the ad and then just send that code that varifys the ad has Been injected back to the server so it thinks the ad has been injected when it's not it could work in theory so it basically is just sending a false greenlight back to the server so it thinks the ad has been injected although doing this would be relatively easy in theory but maybe more difficult in practice just a little idea I had

Help! I blocked 2 elements on youtube with Adblock and cannot find the list to unblock them - Youtube now doesn't work at all!

There is no place with the list of blocked elements. I used to be able to locate it in the past to correct something that should not have been blocked, but that list is nowhere to be found. Like - not under settings> advanced> lists... nothing shows up. I cannot fix youtube. And it was great before I tried blocking an element - I had no ads and it worked perfectly! Now it only works with an incognito window and I have to deal with all the ads.

Note that I tried removing adblock from chrome and also disabling it for just youtube, and nothing changed, youtube still did not work. Tried restarting computer, nope. Nothign works. When I click on youtube, all I get is a white screen.

YouTube ads on one device but not another?

Tried doing some googling for this issue but found nothing.

Essentially, my home computer and work computer both have the same set up. Windows 10, Chrome, Adblock Plus, and the same YouTube account logged in, but for some reason, my work computer gets ads while my home computer doesn't.

Yes I know about Ublock, I am not interested in that discussion. I want to know the how and why of YouTube ads being blocked on one computer but not on the other. The only difference I can really think of is my home computer doesn't have modern windows 10, I froze updates like a year ago, but my work computer is up to date. Ads have been prevalent on this PC for about 3 months and I'm curious as to why, and if it would be possible to get them blocked again without changing my extensions, because it clearly works on the other machine.

Why is it that the creative works that I find typically on places like YouTube and Twitch that don't run ads from typical advertisers still have sponsorships? Why do they need sponsorships, or rather why do creators generally need financial help to create things when in at least my oversimplified mental model creating things should be a money faucet instead of a money sink... Or at the very least should be money neutral.

Ad pop ups have been replaced with fucking google notifications, and on other sites other nonsense.

Most of the time they stop you from using the site until you click it, or they block half the screen.

Wikias do this a lot.

Example: https://i.imgur.com/zQ9zkMF.png

Anyone tried Total Adblock for iOS?

Since YouTube’s recent issues, I have had some success with Video Lite on iOS. This is a very similar app, which allows you to sign into your own YouTube account and watch without ads. However, when the Video Lite app itself starts up, there are a couple of short ads - before the YouTube sub-application is even accessed. On the same Video Lite home screen, there is an invitation to bypass (these?) ads, with a link.

The link takes you to this page, which invites you to pay a monthly subscription to a service called Total Adblock. It also claims to block YouTube ads.

Before I try it, I wanted to ask this community, firstly, whether anyone has already tried it - and if so, does it work as described? Also, does it actually block ads in the official YouTube app (like Luna used to); or does it simply remove the short initial advertising from Video Lite, as it appears to suggest? What else does it do? Would you recommend it at all?

What is wrong with YouTube Adblockers? And What is the possible solution for such an problem?

I am currently running 3 Adblockers simultenously and switching between them and I am still unable to block advertisement!!. And Now I am getting the most infuriating advertisements ever (one of them being 1:47 Min!!). The problem seems to kind being resolved in Chromium and Chrome Browser(Using an odd YouTube Adblocker) but the Firefox and Firefox Nightly are almost unusable. I am not sure what it exact issue it. Please ffs if anyone know how to solve this particular issue or has any ideas which adblocker to use to combat this particular issue.

Adblock for Youtube(Both Nigtly and Firefox Vanilla)

AdBlocker Ultimate(Both Nigtly and Firefox Vanilla)

AdGuard AdBlocker(Both Nigtly and Firefox Vanilla)

uBlock Origin(Both Nigtly and Firefox Vanilla)

And No uBlock Origin Lite is also not a solution for some odd reason.

Glad I'm not the only one affected by YT's new ads

Honestly we should be paid to see ads this is ridiculous. Isn't capitalism so cool?

I get ads on Youtube despite having uBlock

I had no problem on Firefox until recently. I suddenly have ads on Youtube (and Twitch) despite having uBlock. I even installed AdBlocker Ultimate, AdBlock Plus and AdGuard Blocker but even with all of them enable I have those stupid ads.

Someone told me that having multiple adblocker could make them not work well but I had no problems until now. I even tried to disable them and leaving only uBlock enable but the ads are still here. I checked the update and I have the latest version so I don't understand.

Please help me, I spend a lot of time on Youtube but I really can't stand their unskippable ads.

Another YouTube Post

Sorry to be redundant as I see a ton of posts about YouTube currently, but I can’t find anything relevant to me. I watch YouTube on my Samsung and Amazon Fire TV’s and have never been this frustrated with the ads where I feel I need to block them, but lately I’ve been getting 80+ second unskippable ads.

Does anyone know if there’s anything a tv could download or should I resort to some other measures? I find it convenient to just use the apps on my tv but am worried I might have to try casting or something less convenient.

I appreciate any help.

P.S. I know I could buy premium but why give them more money

Any suggestions for bypassing difficult paywalls with embedded content?

I’m well aware of methods to get around ordinary paywalls like WSJ, but is there any way to get around paywalls like this or this (hyperlinked) where the website is "free" but the content is hidden behind images/links you have to click for access? I've tried clearing cache and cookies as well but haven't had any luck. Thanks.

Sneaky YouTube ads

Does anyone have a solution for the sneaky ads YouTube started putting inside videos? They're not marked as ads, are unskippable, and are undetectable by any adblock software I used. I'm starting to lose my damn mind. I've been using YouTube with adblock for YEARS, so it's unwatchable for me. There are a few things I know:

  1. The ads seem to be account-based. They don't appear when logged out or in private browsing mode.
  2. Sponsorblock is able to skip them as a workaround, using the "Skip to Highlight" feature, though it doesn't work in every video, as some don't have a marked highlight.

Does anyone know of an extension that solves this issue? This issue makes me want to quit YouTube, which has become more and more greedy over the years.

Is DNS Adblocking safe?

Hey everyone,

I’m not new to adblocking and VPNs—I’ve used various programs over the years, but most were either not good enough or required payment for premium features. Recently, I discovered DNS ad blocking for Android. I’ve started using AdGuard as my private DNS, and it works great; it even blocks ads on YouTube.

What’s the catch? It seems too good to be true, and the fact that it's free seems odd. Is it safe? Are there any issues I should be aware of?

What are your experiences with DNS adblocking?

How to skip the ads

In Chrome I find that suddenly over the past couple of days YT videos are now showing ads and my adblockers are not stopping them.

I found 2 different ways around it;

1 - Under the video, click the Share button, then click the <> Embed link then it just works, no ads but a couple more mouse clicks to get what you want.

2 - Use Brave (I seemingly have Ghostery and uBlock Origin extensions enabled so I'm not sure which is working but it does)

youtube is making me watch the 3-minute dune trailer (unskippable) before every video

It's actually insane. I use brave and ublock origin (despite brave already having a built-in ad blocker), I tried using librewolf but STILL it's giving me these annoying unskippable ads and it's making me so mad. Is it true that my account might be flagged? Should I make a new one? I hope ublock origin will be able to bypass this soon.

Youtube is advertising adblockers in video ads

So I thought this was hilarious and ironic. I'm not sure how it worked but I pulled up youtube on Chrome of which I don't have any adblockers installed and I had to sit through 2 ads. The first one was for privacyadblocker.com saying "tired of ads interrupting your video viewing experience? Well not anymore!"

I went to the site out of curiosity and sure enough the main feature advertised on it is blocking youtube video ads. So youtube is advertising an adblocker to block their own video ads. I can't imagine youtube would allow that to be advertised on their site, or would they? Aside from it being funny and ironic, what's really going on here? Did the ad developers slip that by youtube somehow as a tactic for their adblock war against youtube and get it advertised in videos without their knowledge? I don't really know anything about how ads and websites work, so I'm genuinely wondering how this happened.

Adblock on youtube

Has anyone find a solution yet? I have tried all adblockers and none of them work. I use brave btw.

HOWEVER, on a second note and the reason why I made the post since I found it funny. When you uninstall and install a new AdBlock you don't get a single add for some minutes.

it is something I noticed but I don't know how long it lasts. maybe 15 minutes before the adds come back? maybe 30?

I suppose we only have to wait till one AdBlock bypasses the new protection that YouTube made. the old hacker vs security.

Newbie question, is Adguard's DNS safe?

So, I wanna block ads within apps on my Android, and I've heard of this DNS, but the thing is I've never used third party DNS or anything of the sort, at most just uBlock origin on Firefox and that's about it. Thing is, I'm worried that it may not be as good at blocking threats or that it may have vulnerabilities compared to the ones by the ISPs, again I don't know, never messed with these things.

Can someone who knows or has used it confirm to me if it's safe?

Adblock for Safari

Hey, I just got a Mac and I never really liked chrome (too resource heavy) and was excited to finally be able to use safari instead but I was disappointed to find out that the Adblock I usually use isn't ported yet.

Is there any alternatives I can use. I mostly just want to use it for streaming movies and stuff.

Mysterious adblock? Youtube troubles

Hi! This might seem weird, but I'm looking to find out what adblocker I have,

This laptop is from DSA, so there is some preinstalled software for me on here. I believe whoever set this up had some sort of AdBlock on the laptop. This is because all ads are just skipped right through. For instance, on YouTube, it does play the entire ad but incredibly fast, and most banner ads just don't show up for me. I cannot find the AdBlock, and I have no idea where to pause it if I need to.

BUT YouTube is now not letting me watch any videos. It detects the adblock, but the adblock usually just skips right past that, too. But YouTube just won't stop reloading; it's as if they're fighting, lol.

Any help is appreciated. I just want to listen to some music.

Stop Adblock from redirecting your webpages.

Adblock extension for Chrome is constantly redirecting me to their donation page, what seems like multiple times a week.

Does anyone have any suggestions to prevent this? I suppose one could use a JavaScript injector to detect the load of their website and kill it immediately. I'd like to kill the root source though.

Youtube is constantly buffering on random videos

Been having an issue lately where I could be browsing some videos and then suddenly the video will have a sort of buffering issue, it's something to do with the way I have my uBlock Origin set up I think because it doesn't want to co-operate with me unless it's disabled for the page. I also run sponsorblock and dearrow but I don't think it's either of thoses. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This is who will be affected by manifest v3

If you are using Adguard then more then likely most people won't be affected. If you are using Mac, Windows, or Android you will not be affected because adguard is not limited to any browser and is a piece of software that you run on your machine. Iphone users most likely won't be affected because Safari is a non chromium browser and uses webkit.

If your using a browser that has a built in adblocker like Brave or Vivaldi then you also won't be affected because the adblockers are built right into the browsers themselves and don't rely on any adblock extensions.

The people that will be affected the most are people that are using ublock origin or another adblock extension.

Looking for an adblocker for Safari for free?

Then try Adblock Pro and use this code 3ADCB697 to unlock an extra function.

It’s an extension for the Safari Browser on iOS and blocks ads like on websites or advertising videos on YouTube.

According to the developers, you can surf up to 3 times faster and save 60% of the convention data volume.

This extension is free of charge! However, you can purchase a premium subscription to unlock all functions, but it’s not necessary and to expensive.

Alternatively, you can also use this link https://adblockpro.com/?r=3ADCB697.

Adblock Pro can also be downloaded directly from the Apple App Store.

Simply enter this code 3ADCB697 after the installation and the tutorial to unlock an extra function as mentioned above for you and for me.

Thanks!
