My adblocker is failing
Edit: it is no longer just a black screen. I get five second of black screen and then the ad simply appears anyway.
I've been using my Samsung for two and a half years.
I'm using Adguard Content Blocker and Adblock for Samsung Internet. My issue is on Youtube specifically.
Until yesterday my phone has perfectly skipped ads so I could watch videos the moment I click them. Since yesterday it now doesn't skip the first ad but simply gives me a black screen as the ad runs its course so I have to wait even for 1 min videos. It's almost as annoying as watching an ad. Midroll ads still don't appear as far as I can tell, thank god.
What has happened since yesterday and, more importantly, what can I do to get back to the days of seamless video play without sitting through long blank screen to watch every video?

Anyone else noticing these ads on YouTube now...? It seems YT tries to do it's usual loading an ad pre-video, can't load a video ad, so instead feeds you these F*****s... I'm gonna try making sure my browser and extensions are up to date and clearing my cache to see if they get blocked again... Is there something going on with websites to bypass adblockers?

I've been seeing recently a lot of websites are rendering weirdly across Firefox and Chrome. It's like they have a wrapper overtop of the content that's almost like a virtual machine is running or something. These sites tend to not run very efficiently and adblockers and any other extensions/add-ons that modify the page do not work. I use uBlock Origin and when I use the zapper tool it just wants to zap the entire page which literally stops the entire thing from rendering. I've even noticed big sites like Facebook are using it. I can immediately tell if a site is doing it by right clicking. I've attached two photos, one is what a site looks like normally when I right click and the other is what happens on these sites. I'm also using a mac and it's showing the quick options as ctrl + <option> rather than command? Does anyone know what's going on here? Edit: Just adding more details, if I click the `Show isolation toolbar`, there is an extension button which has `PDF Viewer`, and says it's installed by my administrator.. To be fair this is a work laptop so maybe it's actually them, this just seems weird that it's only some websites. [link] [comments] |

Doh ad blocking dns?
Does this exist? Using dns.adguard.com right now on android. My understanding with android is that doh has to be in the dns name for the os to swap over to https for dns queries. Or is there some app that gives you more control?

I wish advertisers would do this
A while ago on Instagram I came across an ad that was so cleverly disguised that it took me 10 minutes to figure out it was actually an ad. It was a company selling gaming chairs, and it had a video of a cat dancing to Chipi Chipi Chapa Chapa overlaid on one of their gaming chairs.
I commented on the ad, "That was so fun to watch that I didn't realize it was an ad until just now, and I'm not even mad"

Anti adblock killer?
In the past, I used reek solution and worked fine. Now I have to visit some websites that are blocking me, only when I disable adblock (uBO) I can keep visiting. Any solutions for this guys?

Pandora ads workaround?
For S23. Hit muti-winmuti-window or recent, hit "active in background", hit stop next to Pandora. Start app again.
Put it first so you're not forced to read this whole thing to hopefully get it. Been using pandora for a couple years now. I've tried all the other music streamers and for a lot of different reasons pandoras algorithm wins hands down. I wish it weren't true so much too cause the app, atleast for my S23, has been nothing but issues. Long story short, one of the main issues the app would freeze on the song loading screen, just buffering you to death. Hit the recent button (or multi-window), bottom left corner on phone, and you'll see at in the top left of your screen it'll say "* active in background". * being however many you have running. Give that little guy a tap. A window will come up asking you what, if any, you wanna stop. Hit the "Stop" button to the right of pandora and if you get fast enough at it the time it takes to hit those 3 buttons then a fourth to open the app back up takes far less time and brain cells. I know it's super petty but I listen to a lot of music and when you finally find that right software that actually gets your tastes only to find out they tanked the actual product that softwares in. I believe it's 100% warranted.

Ads are skipping but getting a 'still' ad now

If your Ublock doesnt work on Youtube anymore, try signing out.
Ive been having issues with youtube for months now, crazy delays before videos start, some videos not starting at all, and now Im receiving ads just as if I wasnt using an adblock.
BUT, if sign out of my account, everything works perfectly again.
Id report it to the Ublock Origin sub, but theres no way in hell Im reading that megathread wall of text and go through like a dozen steps to give them my addons, extensions, and various other miscellaneous data for something that has nothing to do with my computer.

My Youtube no longer works, although it works in Incognito Mode (with the same ad blockers)
I use ublock origin, adblock plus and adblock on Chrome.
Since 10 minutes, I can't watch videos on Youtube anymore. Yet, if I active the Incognito mode, it perfectly works.
I tried with ublockorigin only but it doesn't work too.

Unskippable Ads in YouTube video bypass?
Hi.
Just today, I have been starting to get Ads within any YouTube video I start to play. Not the normal ads with the time/skip buttons with the yellow play-bar... but actually within the youtube video itself as a redbar and its own play timer.
Do we have any tools that can bypass these ridiculous ads?
On Firefox, using uBlock Origin.

AdBlock ads in the Wall Street Journal
I have been using the AdBlock extension on Chrome for years, and it has always worked well. I detected what I believe is a glitch today, the ad counter on the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)'s main page keeps going up. After a couple of hours it shows to have blocked over 235,000 ads, that is, about a third of all ads I have seen in my browser for over a year.
I have tried other media and other websites and only WSJ sites (including articles) are doing this. Does anybody know why?

Twitch being Twitch
So lately Twitch has been doing a dumb thing where if I have Low Latency turned on (and also when it's not 160p for some reason), eventually the video stops for a bit before speeding up, while the audio stays the exact same.
I thought this was an issue with the adblockers I had installed, but I turned all of them off for a bit, and it still happened anyways. So it's either a Twitch issue that's currently going on, or I'm cursed.

A how-To: Disable adverts and websearch on Windows start menu
I probably spend too much time blocking adverts. They are really fucking irritating. Today's ire was from me hiting Start, typing "iperf" because I wanted to run iperf3 and seeing an advert for car insurance.... WTF? I am not looking for insurance and this this MY Windows 11 pro licence. I bought it. Fuck off.
/ rant.
Here's the how-to.
- Open regedit as admin
- navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
- Create a new key called Explorer
- Inside that, create a new DWORD called DisableSearchBoxSuggestions
- Set value to 1.
- Reboot.
- No more adverts.
Hopefully that helps someone.

Need help finding: method of globally blocking all ads across all PC apps
Howdy all. A couple years back a read a reddit comment about someone going "kernal level" (I believe, could be wrong here) and blocking all adsense or similar advertisements across the entirety of the computer. It wasn't simply browser adblocker, but if there were any applications with built-in advertisements, it would work there as well (for example, I've got some mod browser apps that have ads built in, and they aren't like web browsers).
I'm probably using the wrong terminology with the kernal stuff because I'm somewhat tech illiterate in that department, but I was hoping someone here might be informed enough to translate my ramblings into something my more technical buddies would understand.
I run a windows 11 PC with an intel processor and nvidia graphics card if those matter.

I need even more Frontends for youtube (that actually work on windows 8)
I genuinely feel enraged yet again. Piped has been broken for months, telling me to log in to confirm that I'm not a bot despite the fact that I'm ALREADY LOGGED IN, with this happening on ALL instances!! Invidious doesn't work at all on all instances, Viewtube doesn't work, Poketube doesn't work, Freetube doesn't work anymore since it's an outdated version and my windows 8 computer can't install the latest version that DOES work, what else is there that is left!?
I don't have ANYTHING android-related at all, so various frontends and apps will not be usable for me at all. Using ublock origin just skips videos straight to the end even when I mash the replay button over and over again, the video NEVER plays properly! I utterly HATE the War on Adblockers!!
I feel like I'm utterly losing it over here, I NEVER want to see even a single second of those hours-long unskippable sound ads advertising highly illegal & illicit material that can get you arrested just for owning it! And now we're getting those exact same ads on console games, in the car, even on our printers!!
I'm going to ask this more than once again, what WORKING frontends that WORK are there for a Windows 8 system that WORK in the browser or downloadable? I've been searching for over half an hour for ANYTHING and absolutely NOTHING actually works, so I'm beyond desperately calling for ANYONE who knows about a frontend that I somehow have yet to hear of. I'm done with ads as a concept, and I'll stay that way for the rest of my whole life.
P.S: Skipvids doesn't support playlists, I've checked.

Youtube issues, potentially due to using adblocker.
Is youtube doing something new to fight adblockers?
I keep getting constant loading wheel screen as well as constant jittering and interruptions throughout every video (using Firefox and ublock) but if I copy and paste the same link into Brave it works fine.
This is driving me insane. Anyone have same thing? or know what might be happening?

Extension that automatically plays youtube, spotify, and more over top of commercials on live sport streams
Commercials during live sport streams are pretty much the only time online I see ads anymore and I wanted to be done with that so I created an open source browser extension that automatically detects commercials on any streaming service (YouTubeTV, Hulu, Sling, Peacock, bootleg sites, etc.) and plays youtube, spotify, or other media over top of them. Here is a video on how it works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DlAmCWWS4c , but basically it just looks for a logo/graphic that you select that only displays when the game you are watching is on, when the logo/graphic goes away, that means it is a commercial, so the extension mutes your sport stream and plays the youtube playlist, spotify playlist, or other media that you set over top of it. I’m using an AdBlock but I don’t know why
It’s been a week that I watch YouTube videos and ads automatically skip. Now, I don’t want Adblocks installed and I’m fine watching ads on YouTube.
Today YouTube sowed me a message saying that I’m using an Adblock, I have never installed anything and don’t know where it’s coming from.
I’m just afraid YouTube will ban me for using something I’ve never installed.
Does anybody have any idea where the Adblock is coming from?

Still no good solution for youtube mobile
I know there is firefox, brave, etc. But the main issue is that it shows address bar. These address bar will hide itself when you scroll down and stuff and this is the main issue. The youtube ui will jitter and stuff because the screen keep getting resized due to this.
As for now, there is currently no mobile adblock browser that you can enter full screen just so it feels like the native youtube app.
Anyone know any solution?

Ads redirect blocker?
I am just watching anime in peace on aniwatch when ads and redirects are blasted on my face. I just wanted to block the redirect and I used this DNS "https://dns.adguard-dns.com/dns-query" and it does block the site but there is still redirecting. It just opens another site to say "the site has closed connection" what I wanted was to watch anime without being redirected not just blocking the sites. Does anyone know how I might be able to do that? Note: It's for Android and I prefer not to change my browser.

Does blocking ads on twitch affect receiving gifted subs?
I'm aware gifted subs are completely random and chances of receiving one can be increased when following a streamer, watching their streams, being active in chat, etc.
I'm currently using PurpleTV with the proxy adblock option enabled and that works fine with blocking ads, but something I noticed is I almost NEVER receive gifted subs. Sometimes when I'm in someone's chat a few people will start gifting subs left and right. 5, 10, 20, 50, etc and it feels like I never win the gifted sub lottery.
Compared to YouTube where I'm not using ReVanced or anything else to block ads, I frequently get gifted subs. I'm currently on my 2nd and 3rd gifted sub for some channels I follow. I even get gifted subs for channels I don't follow, but am active in their chats.
Am I really that unlucky on twitch?

I've seen people mention Xmanager, but it doesn't appear in my Google Playstore. Perhaps it's banned in my country? Anyhow, which adblockers do y'all use for Spotify on Android that's completely safe and free? Ads are so irritating these days ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
