Defeating Facebook ads...
The Facebook app is overrun with ads. The Lite version is slightly better. Accessing the site with neither Brave nor the AdBlock browser seems to tame the onslaught. Firefox with uBlock Origin fixes the issue on desktop, but is no better than Brave and AdBlock browser on Android (11).
Any suggestions for Android 11 that might tame the beast, and are at the same time free?
Thanks for reading!

YouTube video opens up with black thumbnail. How to fix this?
Context: I use Chrome as my default browser, for reasons that aren't relevant for this discussion; I do plan on eventually migrating to Firefox, but for now it's not an option to simply drop Chrome and make the switch immediately.
Ever since YouTube's newest push to kill off adblockers, I noticed that whenever I click on a YouTube video to open it up, the area where the video thumbnail should go is completely black. If I refresh the page, the thumbnail is generated as it should; if I open any such video in a new tab, the problem never manifests.
After a bit of trial and error, I figured out that whatever YouTube is doing, it's in reaction to both the uBlock Origin and Enhancer for YouTube extensions that I'm using; once I turn them both off, the problem goes away (sort of; the video simply plays automatically). Is there a way that I can tweak them to get around this issue?
PS: Yes, this problem started a couple of months ago, but a nasty flu and later my sinusitus acting up something fierce several times prevented me from getting around to finding or asking for a solution for this until now.

I am coding an extension that blocks AI-Generated contents
Hello everybody.
I am in the process of writing an extension that should be able to block many annoying AI generated websites that come up in google search nowadays,
The basic concepts relies on a list of websites that commonly present AI generated stuff.
I need your help in order to build a list of websites that are MAINLY composed of AI generated crap. Once the list will be big enough the extension will get somehow useful. If you can help me, I'd be grateful if you can post all the websites you encounter that are likely AI generated and I will, first check them, then add them to the list.
I am also working on a script that checks if the website is AI generated, real time, but it will take some time.
As soon as the list is big enough I will link the github,
ps. If you have a better approach, let me know.
Thank you!

Slightly different argument against Manifest 3's morality
As Chrome Suicide Day finally approaches (after being delayed a year) I thought I'd bring up one point about the supposed morality of Manifest 3 that I don't think has been mentioned.
Google has always insisted that Manifest 3's limits are needed to protect user privacy from an extension gone rogue. They claim that letting uBO examine the flow of data in the detail it needs to means letting any extension examine that flow and report it to bad actors.
(I'm aware others have attacked this by pointing out that, technically, Manifest 3 only removes "blocking", meaning a rogue extension could actually still appropriate all the "valuable data" that Gorhill lets slip between his fingers; it just can't also pretend to be a full-strength adblocker. But that's a completely independent line of attack from my own.)
Google is not just a browser maker and advertisement broker. They also run half of the smartphone app store duopoly.
One thing a lot of end-users really want is an adblocker that works on smartphone apps. Google prevents that from happening. They are sympathetic to app authors' argument that dodging the ads on "free" apps amounts to "piracy", and kind of have to be since if they didn't app authors would flee to Apple. (Apple is in the same boat.)
There is one way for a smartphone user to block ads anyway. That is to turn off mobile data and route all traffic through a Pi-Hole like solution. But most smartphone owners aren't clever enough to set that up themselves.
For such users, solutions have appeared in the form of "adblocker" apps that are actually just packaged VPNs with "Pi-hole" functionality baked in. (These apps require subscriptions, since they cannot run entirely locally.) This arrangement creates a golden opportunity for the very evil Google claims to be fighting with Manifest 3.
If Gorhill betrayed us (and somehow Mozilla's "Recommended Extension" review process failed), he'd eventually be caught and unable to deny it since web extensions are archived and easy to reverse engineer. But with those smartphone adblockers, all the filtering is done in the adblock seller's datacenter, not the user's phone. Any data collection would be impossible to detect.
If Google actually cared about rogue adblockers spying on people, they'd provide a way to provide "just as good as Pi-Hole" adblocking on a smartphone with no need to involve another computer. They don't need to (further) offend their app programmers by providing Firefox-level adblocking (that can bypass blocker-blocking), they just need to give the user everything he could achieve with a VPN.

Having issues with Youtube's anti adblock blocker
If there are people on this page who use tampermonkey to get rid of that annoying youtube anti adblock message. Have any of you ever noticed that once you have it active that you can't click on some things, I've found that after activating the ad blocker and tampermonkey, I can't seem to click on my account icon or notifications bell icon, But when I disable those add ons, I suddenly can click on those icons.... If anyone else has noticed/has this issue, Do you think you tube is trying to make the site as unusable as possible for people who these add ons.... If so, They are just killing their company

Another AppleTV post :)
I have been lucky enough to be gifted an AppleTV for Christmas, previously I have been using my laptop plugged in to my TV with firefox+adblock when I want to block ads, otherwise I use the inbuilt smartTV features.
I am looking for advice on the most effective methods of ad-blocking on appleTVs:
- Do network-wide adblocks have any effect on ads on apple tv? - I am specifically concerned that there will be a transition from browser to app when I stop using my laptop (especially for Youtube!) which seems to be challenging, nigh on impossible, for network wide adblocks to work effectively.
- If not, does anyone know of an effective method (or the most effective method) of adblocking for an AppleTV?
The next two questions are slightly less adblock-specific:
- Can I install a browser on my AppleTV? I am going to google this now but failing any easy solutions I'd appreciate advice on alternative ways of getting access to browsers on the device.
- Is AppleTV able to be jailbroken/are there any last-ditch methods for effective adblocking?

Any estimate, even rough, for when the YouTube adblock war will end?
- How much longer do you think the war will last?
- Will it be a forever war, or result in a victory for YouTube or for adblockers?
So far I have not seen even a weak, trivial estimate for 1. even from professionals about the subject matter. I don't particularly care for now about professional estimates but eventually I will need it. Rough estimates are a start.

Found a great adblocker for Peacock Premium.
I jumped onto Peacock's $19.99 a year Black Friday deal and actually believe that the service handles ad breaks better than any other ad plan I've ever used. If you start a movie, all of the ads show at the beginning of the stream, instead of during the movie.
Anyway, I sought out an adblocker for when I want to binge watch television shows, which still have ad breaks during episodes.
Hello, Peacock TV Skipper - Available for Google Chrome. The extension allows you to automatically skip intros, recaps, block ads and click the next episode button automatically on Peacock, no matter which subscription plan you're on.
I just leave the "Skip ads" option enabled; you may see a mere second of an ad during one of the ad breaks, but then you're right back into the remainder of the episode. Movies will start automatically without showing any ads beforehand. So awesome.
Read more about it, and find the download link on the Chrome Web Store.

Google's poor strategy on adblock
Observing Google/YouTube's behaviour regarding adblockers, I've noticed that they seem to have displayed the tactical abilities necessary to actually defeat us, but they are using a daft overall strategy.
The way for them to win was:
Step ONE: Deploy Web Environment Integrity to "block the exits".
Step TWO: Deploy "Manifest 3" to slow down the reaction time of adblocking extensions and lists.
Step THREE: Deploy a blocker-blocker and keep updating it on YouTube.
It was important to do these in order. They are currently doing Three without Two and it is ineffective. Deploying Two without One will just savage Chrome's market share and still be ineffective against the lost users. And deploying later stages makes it harder to accomplish earlier ones, because we can all see what they are Up To.
With the start of last November, Google just gave up on WEI. Step One will never arrive, and thus the rest of their war with adblockers amounts to throwing rocks at tanks. The only thing I can think of to possibly substitute for Step One is for adblocking to become illegal.
I'm not worried that Google will hurt me by heeding my implied advice. I think there's some "four-dimensional chess" reason they couldn't move forward with WEI. Probably some friendly person connected with Google's otherwise unrelated antitrust prosecutions helped us out. It didn't hurt that Step Two, while still two weeks from implementation, was announced years ago and we could all see the implications.

Youtube Adblock Guide For Firefox & Android
For Desktop (Firefox):
Enhancing Privacy and Accessing YouTube:
Download Firefox: Get Firefox as your browser if you haven't already.
1. Install Extensions: Add Ublock Origin and User Agent Switcher to Firefox. You can grab them here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/user-agent-string-switcher/
2. Configure User Agent Switcher: Open the User Agent Switcher extension and set it to the latest Chrome version. This action tricks websites into thinking Firefox is Chrome, aiding in access.
Troubleshooting YouTube Issues:
If you encounter issues, first sign out of YouTube, then, in your browser settings clear your cookies and site data found in the privacy tab. Within Ublock Origin, access filters, purge caches, update filters, then restart Firefox and log back into YouTube for the changes to take effect.
YouTube ReVanced (Android):
Youtube Revanced Setup:
1. Download Revanced Manager APK: Obtain the Revanced Manager APK from Github: https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases
2. Download Specific YouTube App Version: Get YouTube v18.45.43 (no DPI variant) from APKMirror:
https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=youtube+18.45.43+
3. Acquire Vanced MicroG APK: This is crucial for Google account logins within the Revanced app.
https://github.com/inotia00/VancedMicroG/releases/tag/v0.2.27.230755
Preparing for Installation:
Before Proceeding: Ensure you have the necessary APKs. Additionally, uninstall/disable the official YouTube app and disable automatic updates for it in the Play Store, this prevents the patched APK from being overwritten.
Installation Steps:
1. Install Vanced MicroG: Install this first.
2. Using Revanced Manager Patcher: Open the Revanced Manager, navigate to patcher, Select the YouTube v18.45.43 APK from storage, apply the default patches and install once the process completes.

Bypass YouTube's stupid anti-AdBlock

How to install:
- make a new bookmarklet
- set the URL to that below
- when you get that anti-AdBlock thing, just click the bookmarklet
- Bypass that damn anti-AdBlock
Use this `javascript:(function(){document.cookie.split(";").forEach(cookie => document.cookie = cookie.replace(/^ +/, "").replace(/=.*/, "=;expires=" + new Date().toUTCString() + ";path=/"));localStorage.clear();sessionStorage.clear();location.reload();})();`

Advertisements don't have to be garbage.
They could provide an enrichment incentive along with product awareness they are promoting. Whatever your justification, I just don't see 'forcing' people to consume trash to consume content they may enjoy or might actually need to be a terrible idea in the long term. YouTube provides content from all genres, many of them educational.
More then this, there's no standard of comparison for the claims made in any of the ads except to make them politically and socially sensitive. Modern advertisement typically follows 'Donald Trumps Motto' of 'Sell the package, not the product' and America is trying to indite the dude.
You ruin the free market system by diluting the quality of information provided to the consumer that they use to make decisions. Its brand marketing now, forming trust over clever packaging tricks instead of honest, transparent, and clear reasons about the product. We don't need to make good products anymore, we just need people to think they are good products... And those are two very different goals.
Just wondering if I'm alone in how I think and wanted to get some of my thoughts out about this to see if people agreed or disagreed.

Is Reddit doing the same thing as youtube with throttling site/media loading if using an adblocker?
I've been seeing this more now, where a post with a video (not hosted on another site) will load the first frame, but be unplayable for about 5-10 seconds. It doesn't happen on all videos, but majority of the time its on posts with more than 4k upvotes.
I am using NoScript, uBlock Orgin, Privacy Badger, and RES.

No matter what I do I can't get ads on Youtube and I can't get the adblock warning either
I was helping my son try to bypass the adblock detection on Youtube and I helped him do the exact same things as I have done, same extensions and same settings, but it kept detection his adblock. When he turns it off it he gets ads again and no warning. Thn I wanted investigate why does it work for me and what exactly is it that make it work for me?
I disabled all of my extensions and restarted firefox and my pc, yet I still can't get ads to appear and I still get no adblock warning. If I try in Edge browser or Opera I get ads no problem. So something with my Firefox is causing this, I just don't know what it is.
Can you help me in the direction of an explanation perhaps?

Temporarily Disable Adblocker
So I know how to turn on/off adblocker, but is there an adblocker that has a just "turn off for this visit" so I don't have to remember to turn it back on.
For me its more about the blocking elements from this page than the ad blocking feature. Basically trying to block the Reddit and YouTube feeds from enticing me to click on a link and head down a long rabbit hole of continuous clicks. Sometimes I might want to engage and turn it off, but most of the time I want it on automatically, and I frequently forget to turn it back on.

Dumb question, sorry.
Lately Pandora on my computers has been acting up; not responding to skips, down-votes or changes of station. It's like it's stuck. I asked elsewhere and am sold on giving Spotify a try. I go to sign up and it says " You seem to be using a proxy service. Please turn off these services and try again. For more help, please contact customer service. " so I turn my blocker and anti malware extensions off (chrome BTW) and try again, still the same message. Is my trouble with either service likely for running blockers at all? Please ask me for missing detail if something more i needed to answer my question.

Let me introduce the AdSkipper. Only thing you need to get rid of video ads.
Hi everyone. I am web dev with over 6 years of experience in the field.
Few months ago I created https://adskipper.me, a browser extension that will skip YouTube ads automatically. After seeing that it works without an issue, I decided to put it up on Chrome and Firefox web stores, and make it open source on GitHub (link below)
It is not working as regular ad blocker, but it rather skips them fully. Logic is really really simple. If ad is playing, just set current time to full ad length and click the Skip Ad button automatically. This means that YouTube will see the ad as loaded and watched, but you as a user won't see it, so in my opinion it is (almost) undetectable, and as long as ads work in certain ways, it will remain undetectable. Even if they somehow bypass it I already have few more different ways to make it work. It doesn't remove all ads from YouTube which makes it much less intrusive and suspicious.
It has about 3k users (Firefox and Chrome combined) and is growing steadily every day.
Currently it supports skipping ads on YouTube and removing Shorts (I hate shorts). I am in the process of adding new websites and creating more features (blocking videos from certain channels, researching ways to make it work on YouTube for Android, adding local statistics (how many ads skipped, how much time saved) etc..). If you have any ideas or features you'd like to see, I am more than happy to hear them. If you want to see all available options Right Click on extension > Options. You'll find everything there.
If you decide to use it, and you like it, it would be really nice to rate it on extensions stores as that would help boost it so more users can see it.

I've Created My Own Kind of Adblock
Hey Reddit folks,
After a decade-long break from coding, YouTube's recent policy changes regarding ad blockers sparked my old programming flame. That's how "ADccelerator" came to life - my personal take on making YouTube a bit more enjoyable without shortchanging content creators.
Here's the twist with ADccelerator: it doesn't block ads; it speeds them up. You can crank them up to x16 speed, allowing you to support creators while experiencing less disruption. It's a super simple and lightweight extension, tailored specifically for the YouTube platform.
Right now, ADccelerator is only available on the Chrome Web Store and is up-to-date with Manifest V3 for top-notch compatibility and safety. But here's where I'm looking to you guys: with your support and input, I plan to enhance its features and make it compatible with more browsers. Your feedback will be key in shaping its future.
I encourage you to give ADccelerator a try and share your thoughts and suggestions. You can find the extension here: ADccelerator on Chrome Web Store. Together, we can make the YouTube experience better for everyone.
Really hoping ADccelerator makes your YouTube time a bit more enjoyable!

Exploring the Quirks of YouTube's AdBlock Challenge: Uncovering Some Modest Solutions using YouTube's Embedding API
YouTube's controversial addition of anti-AdBlock measures has had an interesting effect on the internet community. In short, it's accelerated a technological arms race between YouTube's anti-AdBlock software and creative methods to skirt around it. And considering many suggest that the majority of creators make very little through ad revenue, using one may not be as negative as the Alphabet corporation may claim (here and here for reference). But, of course, there's a wide variety of options available with one of the most popular being uBlock Origin. While you could always go hardcore and block ads across your entire local network using something like Pi-hole, a lighter hand is usually desired. Though many of these options are now hampered without additional workarounds.
One such workaround, I discovered and implemented in my new mini-project YouTube Embedded. At it's core, the system works using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS that can be run in any local browser without a web server (unlike the errantly popular Node.JS based options). The operation is quite simple and only requires the user to input one or more YouTube URLs. Upon submission, the indicated YouTube video will be added to an official YouTube embedding <iframe>
. From there, the user can the video normally without ads or the message from YouTube that their browser has been blocked.
Of course, this project is presented as an experiment and was designed to bring light to that idea that the internet is not as fortified as many corporations like to suggest. For in the absence of a bigger fish, clever ones will evolve.
---
TLDR: If you're still having trouble with YouTube's ad blocker blocking, give YouTube Embedded a try and let me know what you think of this new quirk in YouTube's structure.

- works for nearly all devices and current adblocks!
- includes both phones and devices!
- leave ghostery, ublock and adblock on to keep you safe while you watch!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
for PC users
step 1: Hover over your video of choice on your home page.
and now you are done! you should be able to watch that video using youtube's video preview features without ads and while not being blocked!
you may or may not be given the option to turn on sound for the video, but we cant really do much about it
For phone users
step 1: scroll untill you reach the video you want to watch.
step 2: wait 3 seconds
congrads! you can now watch videos on your phone without any ads AND no adblocks! epic!

Dnscloak app on ios works for blocking ads on Twitch for free
Hey Redditors,
I just realised that this app works on ios for blocking ads on Twitch app. I figured it out my self. Browsing through on the web everyone has mentioned Adguard but not mention for dnscloack anywhere, trust me it works, get it. Ios has no apps unlike android for Twitch purpose for this reason for adblocking but it really works. Just want to help people who are fed up of ads on twitch, gone for good permanently. Thought it would be of use to many, this is probably the first thread on the web mentioning this.
Good luck.

How to get around youtubes adblock window.
Many adblockers are currently fighting youtube's restrictions on adblockers but I recently found a workaround you can use while you wait for your favorite adblocker to fix their filters. It's a bit tedious but better than turning off adblocker.
If you are getting this while using adblock simply click the "share" button for the video then click on the "Embed" logo and voilĂ , you can watch the video, No ads will play during the video either, At least for me using Adguard.
here's screenshots showing you how to do it.
