AI Adblocker idea pitch

Is there an AI adblocker using stable diffusion to replace an ad with what would have been on the screen before the ad? Suppose I am watching a video and an ad pops up. This hypothetical app would keep the previous frame in memory, and replace ad with the pixels of the previous frame, while the non-ad parts of the screen continue to receive new pixels.

New Youtube Adblocker - GoodTube

New Youtube Adblocker - GoodTube

Sick of seeing Youtube ads? Me too...

I made a little plugin called "GoodTube" to fix this problem. It works for Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc.

To install it, first install this browser extension "Tampermonkey"

https://www.tampermonkey.net/

Once that's done, simply click on this link and to install the thing I made:

https://github.com/goodtube4u/goodtube/raw/main/goodtube.user.js

Basically it gets the videos from other servers (you can select from a whole bunch of em) and blocks all visible page ads.

For anyone that wants to use it on a phone, I think you can make it work by uninstalling the Youtube app, adding this to chrome / firefox / whatever and then visiting the Youtube website from there.

Works great as far as I can tell. If you have any problems, etc - please let me know.

Features -

  • ZERO ADS.
  • The beloved algorithm / watch history and all that stuff still works.
  • Keyboard shortcuts work.
  • Subtitles work.
  • Shorts are removed.
  • Unwated search results are removed (i.e. "You might also like this, other people watched this and so on")
  • Autoplay is supported.
  • Playlists are supported.
  • Thumbnails for other recommended videos that pop up when a video finishes are removed (I really hate these, try without it's nice).
  • You can download the video or audio straight from the player! There's a little button at the bottom of the video to do it. (This will open the straight video / audio in a new tab. Then hit Ctrl+S to save it somewhere or press the 3 little dots on the video / audio and select "Download").
  • It'll tell you when there's an update and give you a little button that installs the latest version.

Caveats -

  • Currently servers will not give 1080p. Working on it, should be available pretty soon.
  • Chapters are not yet supported, but again - working on it and should be done soon.

Why? Well lately I've been raging as Youtube have successfully stopped most adblockers from working (or they only work sometimes). You've probably been experiencing this same nightmare on and off.

If your adblocker is working, by all means use it, but if not - give this a try.

I'll never pay a company that is slapping ads on one of the largest archives of music / film / art in the world and blackmailing me to remove them. They really have a social responsibility that isn't being taken seriously...

So anyway, screw em. Install this little thing and happy days peeps 🎉

This took around 2 weeks to create and a thousand black coffees. I do hope you enjoy it.

p.s. If you're a programmer and would like to help out, hit me up! There's some stuff I'd like to crack, for example how this amazing site works - https://skipvids.com/ - would love to reverse engineer it at some stage...

Trying to find a way to block ads on mobile news readers

I'm a bit of a news junkie and my go-to apps are the Google news app and Google's custom feed on Android. Lately though the ads have been too much for me. I used to just ignore them, but now it seems like almost every article will autoplay videos I don't want to watch, mute the music I'm listening to, create lag that makes me lose my place in the article while I'm in the middle of reading, and throw up those stupid borders that cut off the edges of the article every 30 seconds. I don't think I can deal with this crap anymore.

I've had an adblocker on my PC for years, but I do most of my reading on tablets and smartphones. Is there any news aggregator with a built-in adblocker? Can I maybe set up a custom RSS feed with adblock on mobile? Even if there are apps with less intrusive ads I'd be grateful, but I doubt Flipboard/Yahoo/Apple/etc. are any better. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

If advertisement is ultimately inevitable, why don't they just do this?

Before you downvote me to oblivion and back, hear me out here.

I guess if advertisement is completely unavoidable, especially if they don't want to just put the entire site behind a paywall, why don't they just have advertisements off to the side of the page and not right over the video player?

Does youmute not work anymore?

I'm not trying to block ads on youtube. I like to listen to quiet podcast videos while painting at night though while my kids are asleep, and when an ad comes out at an absolutely deafening noise, it's frustrating.

So I was really happy when I found Youmute, which automatically mutes the ad. I think it even auto skips them when the button comes up. This is totally fine for me, I don't need a total ad block.

However recently it's stopped working for me, though it still shows as active in my chrome extensions. (Version 0.2.0). It's as though it's not installed.

I assume it got caught in the flack around trying to block ad blockers, but thought I'd check.

Is there anything else that works? I'm fine if I can't even auto skip it, I just want to auto mute it.

YouTube mobile adblock with Brave

Many people use 3rd party apks in order to use YouTube on the phone without ads.

If you wanna keep the official UI & your account you can simply download the Brave Browser in the playstore, visit YouTube and create a homescreen shortcut.

Sometimes it also gives you an option to install the website as an app. There's no difference really besides the icon looking like YouTube.

UI however is to 99% the same than the native app and you don't have any ads.

Is there a comprehensive list of Louis Rossman’s recommendations on how to avoid ads and other arbitration agreements? If not, could we use this post as a thread to create it?

It would be great to have a checklist, not only to implement these solutions, but to illuminate places where my privacy is being breached, data is sold without consent, and my time is wasted without my conscious awareness.

Thanks!

Issues with youtube pausing randomly

Anyone else have any issues with youtube with ad blockers where it will pause randomly?

I think it's because it's trying to play a ad, but with the ad blocker preventing it from playing, it gets stuck buffering

The only way to get it playing again is if I manually unpause it

It's getting annoying and I'm wondering if there's anyway of fixing this

This happens with any ad block I use

And I'm on tablet

TOTAL ADBLOCK IS BROKEN as of April 17, 2024!!

I have used Total Adblock on my Windows 10 desktop with Chrome for 2.25 years and it's been absolutely fantastic, until today. It was just like they said, running in the background, blocking all ads, popups - it was wonderful! Best thing I ever did to my PC! They never once sent me anything at all, no requests for upgrades or more money, nothing like that. But it cost $28AUD for the first year and if you don't negotiate with them every year they will charge you the 'full' price which was $119AUD in 2023 and $175AUD in 2024. (I negotiated $28AUD for this year, 2024.) So you better watch that!! That was until today.

Today it changed. The look of the program changed, the menus. There is no more feedback form. There is no more email contact. Some of the help links do not work, they just take you back to the help page. It stopped blocking ads on some sites. You cannot attach pictures in the chat, it just doesn't work. English support from UK is now Indian support from India.

It's broken now. It looks like the whole program has been upgraded or re-written or ported to another language/OS. Everything is worse. As a long time user I had a chat link so I activated that. The person on the other end could not speak English very well. They used to be an English company, with support handled by English people in the UK. Now they are not Total Adblock, but Total Security. Help is outsourced to India. It is totally useless, they could not even understand what I was typing and just said, reboot, reinstall.

It's a sad day for me. I guess I will have to look for another ad blocker, but I was really happy with this one. I didn't even get Youtube ads, I had forgotten they existed. They are back and they are annoying!! Oh well. We'll see if they get the ad blocking working again, I have another 9 months of licence to see what happens.

Message ends .. David/blucat

AI for a more permanent solution against adblock?

Well idk where to post this, so I'll just get rid of it here. Has anyone else noticed youtube is flickering and stammering when using an adblock? Like a youtube video will skip the first few seconds of a video and jump right to 10 seconds in. This makes people rewind the video back to the start.

So people with an adblock will frequently rewind the video back to the beginning after being a few seconds in. I believe this behavior allows yt to isolate and identify who's using an adblock and enable ai to be used to tackle the problem for a more permanent and adaptive solution.

Are we aware of this? Also am I potentially stating the obvious, or do you think this is delusional?

Adblock suggestion

I've been using Ublock for a while now and it has been tremendous in blocking ads and popups but recently it has let me down with a few issues. Like many others, I use discord as a place to look at hoohas and chocolate starfishes and the way I do so is through megalinks. The issue now is however, in order to get to the mega links I have to do an ad that I previously did not usually have to do because of Ublock, but now Ublock does not bypass those same ads. Does anything have any suggestions as to what I can do or what other software I can use? All Ublock does is continue to buffer and refresh the page.

iOS chrome YouTube???

So I was at my wits end with the YouTube app on iOS, the ads were getting ridiculous and I had just lost YouTube premium from my trial. One thing that I had really liked doing as well was playing a video and closing my phone and listening to it with CarPlay or headphones.

I told my friend about it and he enlightened me that you could do the same thing just use the chrome app to go to YouTube site and you can close and watch videos.

I don't know if this is just me though but if I get an ad on chrome YouTube iOS I can just swipe down and reload the page and the ad is gone every single time. Not sure what's going on but I guess I'm happy.

Can someone figure out what's happening or if you get the same results???

AdBlocking on SmartTV - which brands / operating systems?

Hello guys,

I’m thinking about getting a SmartTV that doubles as a 2nd monitor that I sometimes (rarely) need for work.

I‘d love to have something that is capable of AdBlocking / a little more customizable. I mainly use YouTube, and the struggle with the new adblocking stuff seems to be real… But if all goes wrong I’ll just connect my Laptop via HDMI and watch over that. But forcing the device to connect to certain DNS servers would be cool.

Since I haven’t had a TV for 15+ years, I’m just completely lost on what to get. That’s why a lot of the stuff that I’ve read in the search function doesn’t really make sense to me - I simply know absolutely nothing about TVs.

As far as I’ve read Android seems to be the way to go, right? What other Operating Systems would be acceptable?

What brands would your Go-To be?

In a few local stores I’ve seen the most prominent were Samsung and Toshiba.

Would other brand be preferable?

Thankful for any advice. :)

How to block YouTube ads in iOS & Android and save money on YouTube Premium

TL;DR On iOS, most YouTube ad blocking services have a clunky interface. They can't disable ads in the official YouTube app and use browser extensions or their video player to block them. We created Promoblocker[dot]com service that blocks all YouTube ads in the official YouTube app on any device (iOS, Android, Linux, Windows) for almost three times cheaper than YouTube Premium. ($7 Promoblocker vs. $19 YouTube Premium) To get a trial version, leave your email on our website. We will send it to you as soon as we launch the service.

Details: There are several approaches to block YouTube ads nowadays: 1) Safari extension is used, which you need to install from the App Store, then go to settings, find Safari settings, open extensions there, 10 toggle switches, and only after that there will be no YouTube ads in the browser (!). This is very inconvenient, and we have no option to use the official YouTube app;

2) Another approach is that the user installs an app from the App Store, opens a YouTube video, clicks "Share" there, scrolls to the "More" button and selects the previously downloaded app to have the desired video open in it. Firstly, we will still see ads, secondly, it's very inconvenient to open the player every time for any video, and we lose access to the official YouTube app again - we have to use something third-party.

In turn, my team and I are developing a new YouTube ad blocking service Promoblocker[dot]com, which thanks to VPN technology blocks all YouTube ads right in the official app. It looks like this: you bought a subscription to Promoblocker (or took a Trial for a few days), received a VPN key from us, installed a popular open source VPN client, connected to the VPN using the key, and it's done! You don't have any more YouTube ads. It will work on absolutely all platforms: Apple (iPhone, iPad, Mac, TV), Android, Windows, Linux.

We are now collecting applications for the first potential buyers to validate the value of our product. Go to our website: promoblocker[dot]com and leave your email. Once we launch the product, we will send you a trial version of our product and if you like it, you can renew it for $7/month. (For comparison, YouTube Premium costs $19/month for Apple devices)
