If you don't use an adblocker at all, you get a pop up that greys out the screen and you have to click it. There are also now advertisements on the page that I've never had to deal with until recently. If you do block it then you have this bar at the bottom of the screen that prevents you from seeing the very bottom of your page. If you block the element you get something like this. "protopage.com##.\37 jesdq4pg2ew" However, if you reload the page the element is back and if you try to block it again it's just another random letter / number combo. [link] [comments] |

Protopage's pop up. I can't find anything that blocks it.
Don't care about YouTube, don't care about Twitch. What's a good ad blocker that gets all the other stuff?
I have ad free YouTube through a family share account and I don't watch Twitch. I used to use the holy grail of uBlock Origin on Chrome that took care of all the little pop ups and side bar crap that you'd see on sites like speedtest.net I have a Pi Hole installed on my network that takes care of most of it, but I need something client side that can block all of the JavaScript junk.
I'm just looking for a good barebones blocker that gets rid of all that junk, but all the posts here are focused on YouTube and Twitch.
TO SAVE YOU THE TIME: Not entirely interested in switching to Firefox.

Any way to batch remove ads from podcast mp3 files by using unique "ad time" sounds as markers?
Title wording is a bit awkward but basically I listen to podcasts using audiobookshelf which downloads the episodes as mp3. The ads are part of those files but there's a distinct "ad break" sound effect that signals when ads start and when they end. Meaning before and after ads nothing but this sound effect plays before it gets back to the podcast.
Since this is a unique sound effect that doesn't appear anywhere else and is always the same I feel like there should be a way to automatically remove everything between them, including the ads. The result would be the podcast episode completely devoid of ads. I've look a bit but can't find a way to do this with Audacity. Is there a way to do this (and is there a different sub where I could ask this)?

Twitch Ad block fix so far
On the Brave browser, go to extensions, turn off all of your other ad blockers, turn on the Pie Add Blocker, and also enable video player overlay. Refresh your Twitch page; in your live stream, it should not have added anymore. I solved it earlier today. And posted the fix on Reddit. Apparently, it’s working according to the people on Reddit so far.

Best ad blocker for Safari (iOS & MacOS)
For months I’ve searched the internet, looked for Youtube video’s, checked Reddit posts, etc. But I’m still struggling and looking for ‘the ultimate solution’. I’ve downloaded and tested a lot of the available ad blocking solutions but I can’t find the one solution I need. So please help me out on this one.
Currently I’m using Safari as my main browser on my iPhone and Macbook Pro for all my private research. I also want to keep it like this. I’m also using Firefox, but I only use this browser for work related stuff. In Firefox I’m using my all time favorite uBlock Origin. This is my go to ad blocker for years. Until today uBlock Origin isn’t available for Safari and that’s a huge bummer. Because of this I need to find a solid solution for Safari.
These are ad blockers I’ve used in the past and my opinion on them.
-
Adguard for Safari: This ad blocker is doing the job in the Safari browser but it slows down Safari a lot. This makes it hard for me te keep working with it.
-
Adguard for MacOS: I’m convinced that this solution works for a lot of people, but I don’t like the fact that they are using customer data. You also need to install a VPN profile with custom DNS settings over TLS to make it work in the best possible way. This is causing issues when working at my companies network and with my own Unify settings at home. Also the fact that I need to work with a VPN when I’m working from home isn’t making it any better.
-
1Blocker: I’m really positive about this one. So positive that I’ve paid for the premium lifetime subscription. Untill I found out that also 1Blocker caused some problems. It often breaks a website or it causes issues with native apps. I’m remarking some slow loading times when I’m using Apple Music, the Apple TV app and the app store on my Macbook and iPhone. This is also the case when I’m only enabling the ad blocking option for Safari. So eventually this isn’t the right option I guess? It also isn’t blocking all the ads. Ads that are used on sites like footybite, daddylive, etc aren’t blocked.
-
Ghostery: This ad blocking option is maybe one of my favorites. But still isn’t perfect. It doesn’t slow down native apps, it gives me the option to choose what I would like to block or not. But it doesn’t block everything. It also sometimes leaves blank parts on a site because it is blocking the ad but not adjusting the web page. My autisme isn’t a fan of this lol.
-
wipr2: This also a very good no brained ad blocking solution but the big cons are the fact that you can only disable the ad blocker by disabling the extension or by reloading the web page without ad blocking content. This make it a struggle to work with when I’m using links for coupons, benefits ad work, etc. Also the fact that you can’t decide what you would like the block and that some sites needs some customized cookies, makes it not the ideal option to use.
-
ubo lite: This looks a good and solid option for the future. But this project is still in the beta phase. This gives issues on sites, ads that aren’t blocked, crashing of the extention, etc. So not the ideal solution to work with.
-
wblock: Just the same as ubo lite. Beta project and a lot of crashes when I try to enable new lists to use.
-
Adblock or Adblock plus: Works okay. But looks more resource heavy and it makes my battery hurt lol. Also doesn’t block everything I want.
-
Magic Lasso: Works okay but isn’t blocking everything. Also isn’t adjusting the annoyances and is leaving blank boxes on the site.
I also thought of using some providers like Adguard Home, PiHole, NextDNS, … but this only make it work for my home network, will also give some issues with the VPN connection I need for my work and it will give me some extra work when my girlfriends asks my 1000 things about things that aren’t working lol.
I also don’t want to pay for some other subscriptions like Total Adblock, Adlock, etc.
So what are your opinions? Which ad blocker is doing the job for you guys and what is your ultimate setup?

Block Ads in any app on iPhone, iPad and Mac: Magic Lasso Adblock v5.0 released
My Safari ad blocker, Magic Lasso Adblock now lets you also block ads and trackers across all apps on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac — not just in Safari.
This is a huge update to my app that is now available and took years of work to complete.
This release builds upon the powerful Safari and YouTube ad blocking features of earlier releases.
App Ad Blocking, included in Magic Lasso Adblock v5.0, is a local VPN proxy that extends ad blocking and tracking protection to:
- News apps
- Social media
- Games
- Other browsers like Chrome and Firefox
All ad blocking is done directly on your device, using a fast, efficient Swift-based architecture that follows a strict zero data collection policy.
With the new App Ad Blocking feature, you can:
- Block ads in your favourite apps – Whether you’re scrolling through social media, playing games, or reading the news (including Apple News), ads are blocked automatically — creating a cleaner, faster experience across your device.
- Block ads in any browser – Magic Lasso still blocks ads natively in Safari. But now it also blocks them in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and other browsers too — so you’re protected no matter what browser you use.
- Stop hidden in-app trackers – Many apps secretly track your activity and sell your data to third parties. App Ad Blocking helps shut down these trackers before they load, giving you stronger privacy everywhere.
- Speed up your internet – App Ad Blocking runs as a local VPN proxy — performing all ad blocking on your device, privately. It also routes traffic through a fast, private DNS, improving speed and reducing data leaks to your ISP.
Read more about the new feature, and goals I had when developing App Ad Blocking, in the blog post:

Quirk that stops YouTube "Experiencing interruptions" messages
Not sure if anyone else noticed this. But I experienced an interesting quirk to the "experiencing interruptions" messages. I noticed for trailers the message never shows. This is likely because trailers and many other promotional videos are used for YouTube ads. If you open a tab with a trailer then YouTube will temporarily stop displaying the "experiencing interruptions" messages, since it assumes you don't have adblock enabled, and load videos instantly.
I'm guessing YouTube is tagging videos used for ads and assumes if an ad isn't played that you're using adblock.

Control Panel for Youtube Extension trips adblock countermeasures
Ran into an issue where I had to disable the above extension in order to bypass the stupid "playback is blocked until you whitelist" notice.
Not uBlock Origin.
Not Adguard Adblocker
Not Return Youtube Dislikes
Not even Adblock Plus tripped it.
Currently these 4 extensions in isolation do not get the notice. For how long? Don't look at me.

System level Adblocking with VPN?
Searched and asked AI's but I'm only finding one OS adblock app that works alongside VPN.
There must be a way, right? Adguard app is working but can only be used with their own VPN. I'd use Mullvad VPN but private DNS can't do what a system adblock can, even with all the major plus pro lists.
I use Brave and Firefox+UBO but I want my tracking protection to go deeper.
Any ideas?

Using adblock as personal filter list
![]() |
Hey there, i hope this is the right place for it, despite it more having to do with adblockers than blocking ads. For many sites that list links (such as listing tv series, webnovels, builds for a game etc.) I use the custom block element function that many adblockers have. This works grea to hide what I have no interest in reading, watching or playing, especially if the sites do not have such an feature on there own. However on some sides this doesnt work, because the filter would interact with the element on the link and not the link (sorry cant really explain it better). E.g. it allways blocks the title of entry 6 on all pages and not that specific entry. I also looked throught the available slider and option and there is nothing fitting this. Is there an adblocker feature or a way to still block the link itself? My naive mindset just thinks that the link is obviously pretty normal in itself and interact with normal browser behaivor including right click interaction normally. I would be helpful for all ideas or pointers to where I have to look [link] [comments] |
Delayed videos due to adblocker? Any workaround or fix?
As of like a week ago, both Youtube and Twitch have delays until videos begin. It's like 10 seconds of black screen before the video starts, and I suspect it's some effort by those websites to dissuade ads because Youtube in particular feeds me some "Experiencing issues?" link that explicitly states it may be due to an adblocker.
10 seconds of black screen is still preferable so it's not bad, but wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing this and if anything can be done. Using Firefox + ublock origin.

About paid adblockers in June 2025
Hey guys, I was wondering: with the new youtube rules implemented making it even harder to find a good free to use adblocker on youtube, if one were to decide to switch to a paid option, what would you personally recommend? ideally, a paid adblocker not just for youtube but all websites, ones that obviously works and will never fail to do it's job of not showing you any ads.
Thank you for your time.
EDIT: forgot to say that I am not interested in paying for youtube premium as I heard now it doesn't even completely hide ads. I'd prefer another option.

Adblocking/Firefox on a Samsung Smart TV?
My brother uses a Samsung Smart TV as his preferred way to watch YouTube because the screen is bigger. However, we are both annoyed by the long, constant, unstoppable ads, and it's just so jarring to me, because I'm so used to using YouTube on my laptop with uBlockOrigin, or NewPipe on my Android phone.
So, I'd like to surprise him with a YouTube on the big screen with no ads! Is there a way I can do it?

Adblockers that block ads but still let the advertisers get paid?
The reason why they are trying to ban Adblock is because they prevent advertisers from getting money right? Does the whole ad have to play in order for the money to go through?
Surely there is a way to block ads but still have the advertisers get paid so that there would be no need for them to try to ban them right?

Youtube being weird and shitty again
So, I use UBO, and I know very well about the war youtube has been waging against adblockers these days. I haven't had any problems up until recently. When I go to the "videos" page of any channel, the tab suddenly bricks itself and eats up 3gb of RAM. Any answers as to why this is happening? It doesn't happen at any other time, just on the videos page. My task manager told me Firefox was eating up 87% of my memory, with one youtube tab open, as soon as I tried to switch to the videos tab of any channel.

Google Can’t Truly Win This Fight — Only Delay the Inevitable
Brave and uBlock Origin and all the others have communities that are relentless. Every time Google throws a punch, someone out there’s already writing a patch or a workaround. It’s cat-and-mouse, Cats don’t always win.
Yeah, technically they could bake the ads right into the video stream (so they’re unblockable), but that’s a massive investment. Server costs, slower playback, crappier UX. Plus they’d lose metrics they live off. And let’s not forget the PR disaster that would be.
Google can make blocking ads harder, yeah. More annoying too. But stopping it completely? That means burning the whole system down, and even then, someone’s gonna rebuild it right next door.

Why are we able to watch videos at all?
![]() |
As the title says. The only thing you have to do is just wait for the timer to tick down and hit the x and you can watch the vids just fine. The only reason I can think of that videos aren't completely blocked is that they really just have that many false positives, but if that were the case then I feel like I'd see people complaining about getting false flagged. YT is at it again. With enabled AdblockPlus the frontpage is just empty. But if we make some itty bitty little adjustment to our AdblockPlus and exclude just the frontpage ... We can klick videos again and play them. Everything else on the watchside is still blocked then, but i think the Adblock devs all around the world are on it. We will win this fight, one way or another. [link] [comments] |
